Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ first act sees Naoe hunting down the two Onryo responsible for the death of her father in a couple of quests that set the stage for what is to come. One of them is a samurai who is pretty easy to find – and take down – considering he lost an ear to his battle with Fujibayasha senior.
However, the second Onryo is a mysterious woman whose only distinctive feature is the gold trimming on the teppo she uses to take down Naoe and her father. We dive into how Naoe can get to the Golden Teppo and exact revenge for the latter’s actions with our guide.
‘Give Me The Box’ Or ‘I Want Revenge’ Choice Guide

The short answer here is that it does not matter what option you choose, the quest and the consequences play out the same under both options. So you can go ahead and choose an option that at a role-playing level appeals the most to you.
Both choices end with Naoe shooting Wakasa and ending the Golden Teppo’s reign of terror once and for all. With Wakasa taken down, you are officially done with the prologue in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and can begin to think about the kind of build you want to run with for Naoe in the game’s massive second act which also introduces Yasuke to the fold while opening up all of Japan for you to explore.
However, if you are just getting started and are wondering where this point comes exactly in the storyline, read below on how to unlock the quest as well. Also, before you make the above decision, there is another decision that you have to make which actually carries a higher consequence, which I have detailed below as well.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Tea Ceremony

Tomiko points Naoe to the merchants of Sakai who are known for their craftsmanship, unique teppos being among their better-known products. Naoe’s investigation gives her three new objectives to pursue after she meets the son of Imai Sokyu, a popular merchant hosting a tea ceremony that could yield new leads.
However, securing a place at the tea ceremony requires a few steps, providing Naoe with the below objectives:
- Find and meet Sen-no-Rikyu, a real-world historical figure by the way, and learn the intricacies of a Japanese tea ceremony with him. He also provides Naoe with a gift for Imai Sokyu, an important part of the aforementioned ceremony.
- Acquiring a suitable Kosode for the ceremony requires that Naoe help a merchant obtain silk from a nearby pirate ship so that she can be suitably dressed for the ceremony.
You may want to pay attention to Rikyu’s teachings and follow his instructions to better maintain Naoe’s cover during the actual ceremony. This one also has you working out the right way to turn the bowl in the tea ceremony. She gets the opportunity to meet three women with an interest in teppos at the ceremony, with an important choice between accusing either Otama or Wakasa as the killer.
Confront Otama Or Wakasa Choice Guide

If you choose Otama, the narrative leads to an entirely different quest altogether considering that she is not the Golden Teppo. You end up having to chase her down and assassinate her which leads Naoe to discover that Wasaka is indeed the Golden Teppo. You will then have to meet her in battle at Osaka castle, where she takes up a higher position while her guards patrol the lower areas.
However, her superior numbers are no match for Naoe’s shinobi skills and you can easily sneak past them and use your hidden blade to take her down failing which a fairly easy boss battle ensues before you remove her from the Onryo board altogether.
Choosing to confront Wakasa unlocks the quest “Drive the Point Home”. After Naoe accuses Wakasa of being the Golden Teppo, the scene shifts to Wakasa’s home where you find the teppo in question proudly displayed on one of the walls.

After the cutscene plays out, you are presented with the two choices that we discussed above.
