Shiyu Defense is an end-game content in Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ), much like the Memory of Chaos from Honkai: Star Rail or Spiral Abyss in Genshin Impact. Each mission has you going up against different enemies and bosses. After you finish each node, you get some excellent rewards for your efforts.
In this guide, we’ll give you the best strategy to complete the Shiye Defense missions in ZZZ. Let’s get started.
How to Beat Shiyu Defense in Zenless Zone Zero
Here are four tips to help you beat Shiyu Defense missions in Zenless Zone Zero.
Start with Stable Nodes
There are two nodes in Shiyu Defense: Stable and Critical. Stable nodes are available permanently, while Critical nodes cycle out every two weeks. The rewards are always one-time in both cases.
However, Critical nodes are usually much harder than Stable nodes. If you’re having trouble with Shiyu Defense, we recommend starting out with Stable nodes first.
Proper Team Composition
While you can get through most of the Zenless Zone Zero missions simply by mashing buttons, Shiyu Defense is a whole other ball game. Proper team setup is the key to beating the enemies you’ll face in this game mode. Each node features a specific type of enemy, and you should build a team that’s strong against that particular enemy type.

For example, the Second Frontier stable node has robotic enemies coming at you. That means an Electric or Ether damage-focused team will be perfect for this stage. Grace is a particularly strong choice because of her AOE damage.
Check Node’s Special Rules
In addition to enemy weaknesses, each node in Shiyu Defense comes with its own special rule. Some nodes increase your Agent’s chain attack damage, while some buff up a specific Anomaly buildup rate. Using these special rules to your advantage is the key to beating all the Stable and Critical Shiyu Defense nodes in ZZZ.
Aim for the S-Rank Challenge
Shiyue Defense missions in ZZZ have three reward grades as Challenge Targets: B, A, and S. These dictate how well you’ve performed in each stage. While achieving a B-grade will count as completion, you should always aim for the S-Grade for the highest rewards available for that particular node.
Don’t worry; even if you can’t manage to get the S-Grade first try, you can always come back later when your Agents get stronger.
