Now that you get to explore the hidden islands out at sea in Crimson Desert, you can dock at some of these islands to find hidden treasures and secret puzzles. Upon reaching Illiya Island, you will find a mural of a whale, but the image is not complete. Here, you need to solve a quick puzzle to make sure that the images on the rotating plates align with the image on the mural.
The steps to complete the puzzle become a bit complicated, as each plate won’t rotate on its own. To complete the puzzle, you need to follow certain steps, and this guide will help you figure out how to solve the Illiya Island Ocean Ruins puzzle in Crimson Desert.
How to Find the Illiya Island Puzzle

The Ocean Ruins puzzle is part of the Rocky Hill Ocean Ruins of Illiya Island challenge. To find Illiya Island, make your way to the South Sea and travel further south until you reach Central Waters. Keep going south from there to find Illiya Island. After disembarking on the island, continue to go further south until you reach the Ocean Ruins puzzle area.
For the puzzle, you will find an image of an incomplete whale with four rotating plates around it. Some of the plates are conjoined with the others, so rotating one might rotate the others. You need to rotate them so that the images on the plates align with the full image.

How to Solve the Ocean Ruins Puzzle

After reaching the puzzle area, head up the stairs near the puzzle area and interact with the dial here. Then, you can toggle between each plate and check out which plate is conjoined with the other. You now need to plan your next moves strategically so that all the plates are rotated correctly. The steps that you need to follow to complete the puzzle are as follows.
- First, select the right and bottom plates and rotate them until the bottom plate’s whale fin tip aligns with the body.
- Select the left, right, and top plates next and rotate them until the right plate’s tail aligns with the picture.
- Select all four plates this time and rotate them all until the whale’s head on the left plate aligns with the picture.
- Return to the right and bottom plates and rotate them to find the tail and the fin aligned correctly.
- So now that you have the tail, fin, and head correctly positioned, all that’s left is to rotate the topmost plate so that the mountain is positioned the correct side up.
Once completed, the puzzle will emit a glow and zone out. Jump down to the puzzle area and interact with the pedestal in the center to collect the Abyss Cresset, which ends the Rocky Hill Ocean Ruins of Illiya Island challenge in Crimson Desert.
