During your downtime in Once Human, you can take your boat out to sea and do a bit of exploration. If you are lucky, you could spot some of the deep-sea creatures such as sharks and other legendary animals like the Giant Squid. This unique animal is a pretty rare sighting, and as such, you can capture it to add it to your aquatic collection.
Since the Giant Squid is such a rare sight, you should be prepared for the encounter before you set out. There are a few things to keep in mind while trying to capture the Giant Squid, and this guide will run you through the steps to find and capture the squid, as well as how to use it in Once Human.
How to Find and Capture the Giant Squid in Once Human
Finding a giant squid won’t take up a lot of your time, especially if you are out at sea very often. Since the encounter is quite random, there isn’t any sure method to trigger a giant squid spawn. Most of the time, the giant squid is docile as long as you leave it alone. But if you wish to capture it, then you need to grab its attention by diving underwater and luring it towards your boat.
Sometimes, the giant squid might come up to your ship on their own and randomly attack you. If you spot the squid latching onto your ship, I suggest quickly drawing out your best ranged weapon and aiming at the tentacles. That’s considered the giant squid’s weak spot, so shoot as many tentacles as you can. You can keep an eye on the health bar on top of the squid to see how much damage it has taken.
While the squid is holding onto your ship, you can’t move away, since you will be anchored in place by the giant beast. Instead, I recommend quickly shuffling through any weapon on your ship and using it to drain the giant squid’s HP. If you own any combat deviants on you, you can draw them out as well. Keep your distance from the squid’s tentacles, as they will deal some damage. Eventually, once its HP is low enough, you could use the Tranquilizer Throwing Needle to stun and capture it for your collection.
How to Use the Giant Squid
The Giant Squid in Once Human is an Epic rarity creature that can restore +5 Energy and decreases -100 Sanity when consumed. It is mostly used in cooking various dishes like Fish & Chips, Canned Seafood in Oil, and Grilled Fish. Beyond this, you could also add it to the Synthesis Bench to turn it into Acid or use it at the Furnace to get Mixed Fuel.
Its description states that it can’t be consumed raw, as it will cause nausea and vomiting, so it’s a great ingredient to be added to several dishes that require seafood in the list. If you wish to keep it, then you need to create a tidal cage in your ship and add it along with any other sea catches that you might find while exploring the Isles of Abyss.
