At first, it may seem like maxing out your character level might be too time-consuming in The First Descendant, but it doesn’t take that long because after reaching the max level of 40, you can then prestige and reset your character or weapon back to level 1 with added benefits for more power. Here is how you can prestige your character or weapon using Crystallization Catalyst in The First Descendant.

How to Prestige Characters and Weapons in The First Descendant
After reaching the max level for any Descendant or weapon (Level 40) in The First Descendant, you can enter prestige by using a Crystallization Catalyst, which will reset the Descendant or weapon back to level 1.
Resetting your character or weapon back to level 1 acts as a prestige function where you go back down to the starting level but also get to choose an additional Polarity module slot. This lets you have more capacity for two modules of the same type, which is restricted before you prestige and reset your level.
How to Get Crystallization Catalyst in The First Descendant

From the In-game Store and Battle Pass
Crystallization Catalysts are purchasable in the in-game store with 300 Caliber which is a premium paid currency. You can also earn them via the Battle Pass by unlocking it as a reward in its progression, giving you more opportunities to prestige Descendants or weapons.
Completing the Game
All players get one free Crystallization Catalyst after completing the final mission of the game. This is, so far, the only guaranteed way to earn one directly through pure gameplay. It won’t take too long if you just mainline the story missions.
As you can tell already, Crystallization Catalysts for prestige in The First Descendant are hard to come by. So when you do get your hands on one, make sure you save it for when you have many Descendants and weapons unlocked and have a good idea of which ones you are going to use the most.
