Planet Zoo 2 offers three main game modes to use here, namely Career Mode, Franchise Mode, and Sandbox Mode. Each mode is tailored to different needs, and you can seamlessly switch between the modes and try out each one to find your perfect fit. All modes offer different restrictions and possibilities, so you are not tied down with limited choices. Depending on what you are looking for, you can make the switch anytime.
Since all modes have their pros and cons, you need to be well-informed about which mode you should pick so you can have the absolute best start. For that, here are the details of each mode in Planet Zoo 2, what they do, and who these modes are most suited for.
Career Mode in Planet Zoo 2 Explained
Suitable for: New and casual players.

Career Mode is equivalent to story mode in Planet Zoo 2. While there aren’t any quests to complete here, the game will guide you through the ins and outs of the game in the form of different gameplay objectives. Here, you will be tasked with helping the FEN (Fauna and Ecosystem Network) restore and conserve wildlife while building your zoo chain around various regions.
This mode in particular is a great way to experience what Planet Zoo 2 is all about. There will be times when the game is not as forgiving, but it will help you learn more about what it takes to create the best zoo, research new species and care for them, and work hard towards global conservation. Plus, whatever you have created in Career Mode can be shifted to Sandbox Mode too.

Franchise Mode in Planet Zoo 2 Explained
Suitable for: Players who prefer social progression in co-op multiplayer.

In Franchise Mode, you will be working together with several other players online to help build and grow your conservation efforts. This mode does require an active internet connection to run, unlike Career and Sandbox modes that don’t need internet. Once you team up with like-minded players, you can work on improving your zoo’s score, raise reputation, complete goals, and climb up the accreditation ranks.
Anything you do in Franchise Mode will be shared with other players, since this mode acts as a network between all available zoos. With this mode unlocked, you can partake in the online marketplace to trade animals, complete community challenges, and also take in or upload blueprints to the Workshop for others to view or use.
The only downside here is if anyone from your group falters, whether it be from unhappy guests or lack of infrastructure and progress, then the rest of the team will suffer too.
Sandbox Mode in Planet Zoo 2 Explained
Suitable for: Players who want unrestricted access to all gameplay features immediately.

If you don’t want to work through the game objectives or wait for other players to catch up to you, then Sandbox Mode is the perfect fit for you. This mode is the most forgiving, as you don’t need to keep tabs on your finances or the requirements of your animals and guests. You can run free and create whatever you want at the blink of an eye without repercussions.
No settings are locked behind challenges or objectives in Sandbox mode, giving you free rein to do as you please. This is a great way to experiment with builds that were at the back of your mind and wish to test them out first before implementing them. There are no rules when it comes to Sandbox mode either, so anything that you would have deemed unconventional can be used here.
As mentioned above, you can move your zoo from Career Mode to Sandbox, which is a great way to test out new ideas here just in case you don’t want to mess up your score in Career Mode.
Which Mode to Pick in Planet Zoo 2?
I recommend players to stick to either Career Mode or Sandbox mode first, regardless of whether you are a veteran player or a new player. That way, you can refresh your memory with how the game runs while learning about the best ways to manage your zoo and aiding in conservation efforts. After you are confident with your skills, you can stay in the above two modes or switch to Franchise mode to prove to others that you have what it takes to build the best zoo around in Planet Zoo 2.
