While some puzzles are skippable in REPLACED, others are mandatory and required to complete to get on with the rest of the game. When you get to the Warren’s office at Chapter 8, you will quickly find out that you will be staying in here for a long time. Here you will encounter a difficult puzzle with 5 interactable objects that hand out clues for the solutions. You must use all the clues to come up with the answer, and interact with Warren’s computer to know about the proper way the answer is formed. Here is a complete guide to cracking the safe code in Chapter 8 of REPLACED.

Clue Details

In the Warrens’ apartment, you will find various interactable objects after interacting with the computer. The first clue we will get to solve the puzzle from the computer –
Clue: The safe is only unlocked by voice, listing “Taste, Sight, and Sound, in a chronological order.” That means we have to take the year into account to get the perfect clue.
- Interact with the Spice Cabinet (expired), and you will get the information: “Best Before April 1977” with the word Cayenne written on it.
- Interact with the flowerpot, and you will get the information about Flowerpot being made in the year 1965 (the same year Warren moved here), with the word Kilns underlined.
- Interact with the Photo, and you will get “Happy Birthday! 10/12/1963, with Warren, his mother, and Steven,” with the word Birthday being underlined.
- Interact with the fragrance on the shelf, and you will get “New Fragrance 82, this shirt used to smell the same” with the word “Noir” written on it.
- Interact with the Vinyl, and you will get “Essential Hits ’66, looks like it comes from abroad” with the word Substitute written on it.

Solution
Remember, we must follow the chronological order:
- 1963 – Birthday, which has a picture of a cake – We have the answer for Birthday = Taste
- 1965 – Tells the flower pot is being made in the same year as Warren’s moving year. Irrelevant to Sight.
- 1966 – Essential Hits ’66 from abroad, so a decorative piece – Substitute = Sight
Now for Sound, we have two options: Cayenne under the Spice Cabinet and Noir for Fragrance. I tried with Noir, the safe didn’t open, but fortune favors the ignorant, landing on Cayenne = Sound open the safe.
