The 1.0 RuneScape Dragonwilds has brought plenty of new additions to the game, but one of these that is grabbing the attention of many players is the changes made to the Abyssal Whip with the inclusion of Abysmal Whip. It can get real confusing to separate these two and what you need to unlock the Masterwork Abyssal Whip recipe in the game. Some players also encountered a bug with the recipe preventing them from unlocking it.
Here I will go through how to get the Masterwork Abyssal Whip recipe in RuneScape Dragonwilds. There is also a nasty bug attached to the recipe; I will also cover the potential fix for the bug and the reasons why Masterwork Abyssal Whip is better than the default one in the game.
How To Get The Masterwork Abyssal Whip in RuneScape Dragonwilds
You need to have an Abysmal Whip and interact with a statue found south of Burning Spire in the Umbral Sands spot to get the Masterwork Abyssal Whip Recipe. The recipe unlocks a special attack with full damage, along with all the existing effects of the Abyssal Whip.
- First, craft an “Abysmal Whip”: Abyssal Spine, x3 Shrapnel. x3 Swamp Thread, x3 Adhesive, x4 Vault Shard (Required Artisan x100). Then take the Abysmal Whip to the Blacksmith’s Bench to create Abyssal Whip. Abyssal Whip is obtained from defeating the Abyssal Demon in the western section of Whispering Swamp.
Note: The new 1.0 has replaced Abyssal Whip with Abysmal Whip; any sort of Abyssal Whip you owned in the game is now turned into Abysmal Whip. It’s also the weapon that drops from killing the Abyssal Demon. Doing this also drops Tier 4 Upgrade Shards as a bonus reward.
Once you have the Abysmal Whip in your possession, go to the location Burning Spire, as shown on the map above. The particular statue we are looking for in the Masterwork recipe is located near the lava; we must carefully climb down the rock to get closer to the statue. Just follow the arrow marker on the image, and you will find the spot for the statue below, near the molten lava as seen on the right side of the image. Now make your way down to get as close to the statue as you can and interact to get the recipe.

Bug Alert:
Sometimes the statue will not offer you anything upon interaction, even when you have an Abysmal Whip sitting in your inventory. The problem or bug or glitch only seems to occur when you bring an upgraded whip over the starter whip. The only way to bypass the bug is to get a brand new Abysmal Whip and then bring it to the statue for the Masterwork recipe.
