On the surface, The Sinking City 2 may look like a normal detective game, but don’t let the looks fool you. Inside lies a gloomy experience with terror-filled streets of Arkham, where monsters roam. And I must say, I was blown away by the survival horror aspect, which it does perfectly, with some great nods to the Silent Hill and RE series. Aside from that, the curveball puzzles that it throws at you are also interesting. One of these can be found at the Redemption Church.
The Obelisk Puzzle, which sits in the churchyard, is a tricky one, as it is tied to the investigation named The Other Gods. In this guide, I will walk you through the entire solution so you don’t have to walk around the church like a lost soul.
How to Solve the Obelisk Puzzle in The Sinking City 2
In The Sinking City 2, you can solve the Obelisk Puzzle by placing the Trident you find inside the church and putting it on top of the pillar. After that, all you have to do is rotate the four sections within the pillar to match a specific set of symbols and wait for lightning to strike. Here’s the order of symbols:

After setting all four sections, you can validate the combination on the Obelisk. The pillar will then start to glow and draw lightning strikes. However, I must warn you to step back from the pillar once you have entered the combination. The lightning strikes can electrify the area, and if you stand too close to the Obelisk, it will shock Calvin. Hence, you don’t have to be close to the pillar when it charges.
How to Acquire the Trident for the Obelisk Puzzle
The Trident is a compulsory item for solving the Obelisk Puzzle in The Sinking City 2. That said, finding it had me take a brief detour through the church. Here’s how to get it easily:
Get your hands on the Star Key early in the church. It’s located towards the southwest part of the church and is found on a body. This key is also used for several locked doors in the area.
When inside the church, climb the ladder inside and unlock the attic door with your Star Key. Before this, remember to collect the E.R.C Activator Pen from the room you enter from the south side window.
Collect the Trident, which comes with a note inside the church attic.
You don’t have to carry the Trident with you right after collecting it. It is a good idea to stash it in the power room inside the church until you are ready to solve the Obelisk Puzzle.
Finding Clues for the Symbol Order
If you are someone who still wants to challenge yourself a little, you can start by looking for clues instead of just pasting the symbols right away. However, you must know that the order of the symbols is not something the game will hand to you directly. All of it comes from a piece of evidence. Also, the E.R.C Activator Pen that you picked up earlier will come in handy here.
Unlock the crypt in the church’s graveyard with the help of the Star Key.
Once inside, you can find Printing Plate C, an E.R.C Crate, and a document that describes the entities’ marks.
The document helped me lay out the four symbols in order. And once I did that, the Obelisk Puzzle was solved.
What Happens After You Solve the Obelisk Puzzle in The Sinking City 2
Wait for lightning to strike the Obelisk three times after matching the symbols. Once that happens, do the following to finish the puzzle:
- Retrieve the Trident from the top of the Obelisk, which is now lightning-infused.
- Place the Trident in the church’s power room, where it originally came from.
Once you have placed it, the Obelisk Puzzle reaches its completion and wraps up The Other God investigation in The Sinking City 2.
