What Happens if You Kill Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid Delta?

In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, if you decide to go a little crazy and kill Ocelot, you’re in for a very unique surprise. This will lead you to an easy trophy if you can do a certain number of things correctly.

As any long-time fan knows, Metal Gear Solid 3 is a prequel, and Ocelot’s survival is absolutely crucial for the entire saga. His death at this point would fundamentally alter the established timeline of the series.

The moment you take him out, you’re greeted with an immediate “game over” screen that flat-out tells you that you’ve created a “Time Paradox.” It’s an interesting little feature because it forces you to restart the current encounter, which is usually the Volgin boss fight, as that’s the most common time to do it.

Ocelot plays a massive role in future games, influencing key characters and global events. If you kill him now, you erase all of that, creating an impossible contradiction in the story. It’s a fun way for the game to acknowledge its own lore and the importance of its characters.

Can You Kill Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid Delta?

You can kill Ocelot, but it will give you a game over. So technically, you cannot kill Ocelot and still beat MGS Delta. The fact that you still can is a brilliant and funny addition that plays on the established lore of the series and gives players a special trophy for their troubles.

For those who might not know, Revolver Ocelot is a huge, recurring character throughout the entire Metal Gear Solid saga and story. He’s in MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, and even MGSV. His presence is one of the most consistent parts of the series’ very confusing timeline. So, in MGS Delta, a remake of the chronologically first game, a special “Time Paradox” mechanic has been added that lets you shoot him dead.

To be fair, this isn’t a surprise to anyone familiar with the original game. You get the same time paradox in that one, too.

How to Kill Ocelot in MGS Delta

To trigger the Time Paradox and kill Ocelot, you have two chances to get the job done. The first opportunity comes during the Virtuous Mission when you find Sokolov. Right after Ocelot shows up in a cutscene and gets knocked out, you regain control of Snake with Ocelot lying on the ground.

At this point, you have to use a lethal weapon to finish him off. You’ll want to find a weapon with the “DMG” label in your inventory and start blasting away. It’s worth noting that it might take more shots than you expect to actually kill him, so just keep shooting until he’s down.

Since this will immediately lead to a game-over screen, I’d suggest saving your game right before you attempt this. That way, you can get the trophy and then reload your save to continue the story without getting a game over counted in your end screen. This isn’t one of the changes Konami made to the game in this remake, so you can’t permanently kill him.

The second chance to create the Ocelot Time Paradox shows up during the initial Volgin boss fight. In this fight, you’re in a pit after setting explosives, and Ocelot is watching you from the rim. He won’t shoot back, so you are free to use any lethal weapon in your inventory to kill him.

You’ll want to just focus all your fire on him, blasting away with something like your AK-47 until he falls. Just like the first method, this will also result in a game-over screen that says you’ve created a time paradox and forces you to restart the fight. So, to be fair, you’ll want to do this as soon as the fight starts to avoid wasting any time or effort on Volgin before you get the trophy.

Both methods work perfectly and get you the same “Time Paradox” trophy. This will give you a fun, but disruptive, interaction with a core character.

How to Get the Time Paradox Trophy in MGS Delta

Getting the elusive Time Paradox Trophy in the new Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is all about breaking the game. The whole point of the trophy is to do something so wrong it creates a time paradox, and you do this by killing the legendary Revolver Ocelot at a point where he’s absolutely essential to the future of the Metal Gear Solid series.

Since MGS3 is a prequel, we all know Ocelot survives. He has to. But the remake gives you two chances to defy that fate and snag this unique achievement. Both attempts will immediately result in a “game over” screen, which is the game’s way of telling you that you’ve messed with a timeline-critical character.

The first opportunity to create the Ocelot Time Paradox comes pretty early on, during the Virtuous Mission. After you find Sokolov, a cutscene plays where Ocelot shows up and gets knocked out. Once you regain control of Snake, you’ll see Ocelot lying on the ground, unconscious. This is your moment.

Your second shot at the Time Paradox Trophy comes a bit later, during your first boss fight with Volgin. After you’ve successfully planted the explosives on the Shagohod, you’ll be in a pit while Ocelot watches from the rim above. This is a perfect opportunity, because Ocelot won’t shoot back at you during this part of the fight, making him a super easy target.

These moments are a clever nod to veteran players, allowing you to mess with the established lore and secure a cool trophy by intentionally breaking the timeline. It’s a great way to have some fun with the story in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and get a trophy while you’re at it.
