What Causes the Green Tornado to Appear in Sea of Thieves?
If you spot a Green Tornado in Sea of Thieves whirling in the distance while you are out adventuring in the open seas, it can mean one of these two things:
- Ghost Fleet World Event
- The Legend of the Veil Voyage
Ghost Fleet World Event
If you spot a Green Tornado on a random island, it means the Ghost Fleet World Event is happening on that island. This is a huge battle that pits four waves of Ghost Ships against players as they fight to survive.
As the event starts, a big Green Tornado appears in the skies over the island. This only goes away after the event is completed, which requires surviving the final wave by destroying the Burning Blade, Flameheart’s main ship.

The Legend of the Veil Voyage
If you are on the third and final chapter of the Legend of the Veil Voyage, you can spot this giant Green Tornado in Sea of Thieves on the edge of the map. Three different Ghost Garrison emplacements will also accompany it.
In this instance, the Tornado is meant to potent the Haunted Fort, and the only way to get rid of it is by destroying the aforementioned Ghost Garrison emplacements with your ship’s cannonballs.
After the emplacements are successfully eliminated, the Green Tornado will dissipate, allowing you and your crew members to destroy the Haunted Fort and reap all the loot, including a Chest of Legends.
