Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has gone gold, according to Ubisoft’s tweet. We can all breathe a sigh of relief, especially considering the Sands of Time remake is still going through a development hell.
After releasing a gameplay overview trailer last week, Ubisoft has ramped up marketing for its upcoming Metroidvania-esque return to one of its most beloved series. With the game’s release scheduled exactly one month later, Ubisoft’s tweet is reassuring.
I did a breakdown for the gameplay overview trailer, and from the looks of it, the trailer has been well-received by fans. Sargon’s journey through the mythological land of Persia will have you participate in platforming, exploration, combat, puzzle-solving, “Time Powers”, and more.
IGN is among the outlets that got a hands-on preview of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and their executive editor of previews, Ryan McCaffrey, calls it “a surprisingly deep, no-nonsense Metroidvania that looks set to get our gaming year of 2024 off to a good start.”
Giovanni Colantonio of Digital Trends also praises the game after his recent preview of the first four hours of the game. The game got him to “meet a wide cast of characters, explore a ton of biomes, and complete a host of sidequests that had me taking down some tough optional bosses” within this time window. So, it’s fair to assume that The Lost Crowns will offer a fulfilling experience over its estimated 20-25 hours of runtime.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is coming out on January 18, 2024, on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Amazon Luna. There is also a free demo scheduled to be available on January 11.
