In the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3, while undertaking the quest ‘Find the Nightsong’, you will come across an abandoned ruin called the Defiled temple. The temple is located on the west side of the Shattered Sanctum and can be accessed after killing goblins in the camp or sneaking past the goblin priestess and her Ogre bodyguard. In the Defiled Temple, you will come across a puzzle that needs to be solved to open the stone door to the Underdark and progress to Selunite Outpost in order to complete the quest.
The stone disc moon door puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be seen on the ground in the Defiled Temple. It is formed of four stone discs, with black and white circles at the four corners. The task is to activate these discs, which light up and move clockwise once activated, and rearrange the corners in a specific position.
Unlike many other puzzles and traps in the game that require creative solutions, Baldur’s Gate 3 moon door puzzle is a pretty straightforward one. It is a puzzle with a simple goal. You are tasked with getting the bottommost ring to feature dark moons on all four sides and the topmost ring to feature full moons on all four sides.
How To Solve The Stone Disc Moon Door Puzzle In BG3?
To solve this puzzle, You need to get the bottommost of the four rings to feature all black moons and the top three circles to feature full moons on the sides. The solved Baldur’s Gate 3 moon door puzzle looks like this:
In order to solve the Baldur’s Gate 3 stone disc puzzle, players have to face the sealed stone door. The stone door looks like a slit in the uniform wall and can be identified with two pillars on the wall, defining the door. This stone door will open once the puzzle has been solved.
There is also a broken statue on the plinth in front of the puzzle. You can also face the statue to get their positioning for the puzzle solving right. Once the position is set, players have to activate the discs in the following order to get them into the desired position. The correct order to move the rings is:
- Top
- Left
- Right
- Right
- Bottom
- Bottom
- Bottom
- Left
- Left
The puzzle is based on the phases of the moon. Once the rings have been moved in the aforementioned order, all four corners of the bottommost ring should feature black circles on all four sides and the topmost ring should feature a full moon on all four sides. This means the puzzle has been solved and the stone door will be opened.
An alternative way to solve the Stone Disc Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3
In true RPG fashion, Baldur’s Gate 3 provides you another way to progress in the quest ‘Find the Nightsong’. You can find a lock on the right side of the plinth. You can pick this lock using the Thief’s tools, requiring the passing of a skill check of 15.
