Sony has decided to shut down their iconic PS Plus collection service on May 9, 2023, leaving gamers with only one week to choose their favorites from the stellar library. The company has announced that subscribers will be able to download the games from PS Plus collection until May 9; once downloaded, these games can be played by the user as long as they’re subscribed to PS Plus services.
PS Plus Collection: A celebrated mix of classics
The PS Plus collection was announced at the launch of PlayStation 5 and included some of the most popular and well-ranked titles that had amassed critical and commercial success on old generation consoles (PS3 & PS4). Two years later, Sony published this information on Feb 1, 2023, in a blog post announcing their monthly games for PS Plus subscribers for Feb 2023. All the way down at the bottom was a simple quote that changed everything:
We also wanted to provide an update on the PlayStation Plus Collection that has been offered as a benefit to PlayStation Plus members on PS5 since 2020. On May 9 the PlayStation Plus Collection will no longer be offered. If you haven’t redeemed the titles in this collection yet, you can still do so before May 9, which will enable you to access those titles even after this date for as long as you remain a PlayStation Plus member.
Players across the internet are unhappy about this decision, looking at the end of an era.
These PS Plus Collection games are being removed on May 9th. They don't even much have to do this. I need to finish some of these 😫😫 pic.twitter.com/1zG7OXC7BJ
