Mojang, the developer of widely popular sandbox survival game Minecraft, has recently issued a final warning to players still using their legacy account to enter the cube inhabited world.
Access from the legacy account in question, called Minecraft Premium Account, is going to be shut down soon, and players will be required to log in through Microsoft account. This warning specifically applies to gamers using the Java edition of the game, which was the original version of the game before Microsoft took over its development after acquiring the title in 2014.
Minecraft Premium Account will stop working from September 2023
The 11-year-old game is played by millions of gamers across the world, recording over 130 million monthly active players in 2022. Mojang has been consistently issuing notices to legacy account holders to make a switch over to Microsoft account for the past six years. They have recently disclosed that the last window to migrate existing accounts from legacy to Microsoft account will shut on September 19, 2023 at 11 am EST.
Players who fail to make the switch until that date will be unable to launch the game using Minecraft launcher or Minecraft.net. Furthermore, Mojang has also announced that they will stop account migration support two weeks prior, i.e., September 5
After making a shift to Microsoft account, players will be able to secure their accounts using two-factor authentication. The players will also be able to browse and play all their titles, such as Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends, from a single account. If you are an existing legacy account holder and want to make a switch in order to enjoy the game without interruptions, Mojang has detailed out the complete steps to migrate the account.
