Path of Exile 2 is going to be free for the very first time this weekend, celebrating the launch of its new expansion, The Third Edict. From August 29 at 1 PM PDT to September 1 at 1 PM PDT, you can jump into the game without needing an Early Access key, and it’s available on pretty much every platform you can think of.
This will be open for PC, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store. This is a huge deal for anyone who’s been curious about the game but didn’t want to get in on Early Access. Now is your chance to try it out and see what all the hype for this top ARPG is about.
Path of Exile 2 Is Getting a Free Weekend

This isn’t just a free trial, either. Grinding Gear Games is offering some sweet free cosmetics if you play during this special weekend. All you have to do is complete a few specific quests. If you reach the Clearfell Encampment in Act 1, you’ll snag the Exile’s Hood Cosmetic. Defeat the Rotten Druid in Act 1, and the Exile’s Staff is yours. If you take down Count Geonor in Act 1, you’ll get the Exile’s Cloak Back Attachment.
This is a nice little bonus for players new and old to get some exclusive gear just for playing the game. The free stuff doesn’t stop there. The developers are also running a Twitch Drops campaign. If you watch three hours of Path of Exile 2 streams in the first week after launch (from August 29 to September 6), you’ll get the Clam Stash Skin and the Helmet of the Abyssal. This helmet even keeps stats on how many Abysses you close, which is a neat touch.
In the second week (from September 6 to September 13), another three hours of watch time will get you the Cape of the Abyssal back attachment. If you’re feeling generous, you can also support a streamer by purchasing or gifting two Twitch subscriptions during the first two weeks to get the Storm of Valako Portal effect. For those who are always on Twitch, you can even get a Chaos Orb Twitch Chat Badge by subscribing to a streamer in the Path of Exile 2 category between August 29 and September 14.
Path of Exile 2 Is Ready for Everyone

The patch size is pretty big, coming in at around 46GB on the standalone client and Steam, and about 38.5GB for consoles. If you’re an existing player on PC, you can even pre-download the update using a torrent file, but keep in mind that this file is a massive 117GB since it includes all the existing client content. Console players can also pre-download The Third Edict and continue playing the current version until the new update officially launches.
All in all, this is a massive update for Path of Exile 2. It feels like night and day compared to what the game was before, with so many new areas, monsters, and quality-of-life improvements. If you’ve ever been on the fence about trying this game, this weekend is the perfect time to jump in and see all the new changes for yourself.
