Each weapon in Alabaster Dawn has a gem slot that needs to be activated first before inserting a gem inside. Gems add a special bonus perk to the weapon of your choice. It’s a bit of legwork, but once the gem is inserted, you will feel the difference in combat, especially in later encounters. Having gems will help you mow down enemies in the combat arena quickly without mashing the health restore button. Here is how to obtain gems and use them in Alabaster Dawn.
Alabaster Dawn – Unlocking Gem Slots

Here, we will take a look at how you can unlock gem slots on a weapon. melee and ranged.
- First, get to the Growth Chart, or the upgrade section, and buy a Gem Slot on any of your favorite weapons, whether melee or ranged. As of writing, each weapon has a single gem slot that you can unlock by investing Growth Points or skill points.
- Once activated, head to Equipment and select the Weapon, and here you will see two empty slots right next to the weapon; these are for gems. Once we acquire a gem, we can put it in these slots.
Now we get to the million-dollar question: how to obtain gems in Alabaster Dawn. The answer is short and simple: looting every collectible item you come across. There are over 40 collectibles found in the first chapter of the game, and you will find plenty of gems along with the recipes. Most collectibles do hand out gems as a reward; the gem type may differ, as they come in the form of Weapon and Core.
Crafting Gems
If you found a gem recipe, you can check it by heading to the Inventory and selecting the Craftable tab. Here you will find all the craftable recipes and constructs. All of your weapon-related gems will appear in the Gems section, right next to the Craftable.
You can craft the gems at a blacksmith, Petros at Lyman Center. Interact with him to open the Gem Forge menu. Now select the craftable recipe, offer the required materials, and voila, the Gem is yours. You can head on to the Equipment section, select the weapon, and add the gem to make it more powerful. You find the materials by defeating enemies; suffice to say, the more powerful the enemy you take down, the rarer the materials you will obtain.
Throughout the game, you will find weapon gems and many core-related gems, all of which can be crafted by getting the recipes or simply collecting them from the game’s world. While they might feel insignificant at first, over time, as you step into chapter 2, you will need them to fend off large monsters with solid defenses.
