In Starminer, trading is crucial for economic strength and also to get rid of the items from the storage. Storing or hoarding them can feel good and satisfy the urge to hoard, but there are much better ways to deal with all the material that you may have been collecting – which is by trading it between ships. This can be easy to miss, so I have put together a guide to help you trade stored material with other ships in Starminer.
Trading Materials in Starminer

Here, I’m going to send the materials from the Scavenger Ship to The Bug, which is another floating ship with an in-built Metal Storage. The storage device will help the ship store the materials. If you found a floating ship, make sure to build a Metal Storage so you can use it as a vessel for material gathering.
- The first step is to possess the Scavenger Ship. This can be done by clicking on the white icon that is generally found in the middle of the ship, or right-clicking and selecting the option: Possess. Once you possess a ship, you will have access to all the materials stored in its Metal Storage. Now it’s time to perform the Trade.
- In the next step, right-click on the Bug ship (make sure not to click on the white icon in the middle, or you will end up possessing the ship) to bring up the Trade option, and then click on Deposit.

Note: If the Deposit tab is greyed out, that means it is selected. By default, the selection stays on Withdrawal.
- Now, under the Item, select any materials. I selected Cobalt and Iron Chunk. You can also set the number of items you want to trade to the other ship.
That’s it, hit Confirm Trade, and the Scavenger will start sending in the materials to the Bug. The process happens in real-time. The process of delivering is faster if the ships are placed close together instead of far apart.
This helped me a lot, especially when sending in a Scavenger with the Metal Storage module to mine materials out of asteroids. I eventually hit the storage limit, and initially I couldn’t do much but watch the extra material fly in the emptiness of space. However, trading with other ships helped me use all the collected material effectively.
Of course, it’s a different matter if you come across a ship in itself, when exploring in Starminer – in this case, you may first have to power up the ship by transfering energy with your existing one.
