Runes of Aldur league added many new, much-needed changes to Path of Exile 2, especially to the Breach in the endgame Atlas. The pattern of how the Breach works falls closer to the Breaches in the first Path of Exile. Breaches also the Grasping Orchid, a mysterious object that latches onto the Genesis Tree and spawns a specific armor drop after meeting its requirements. The mechanics here are a tad bit complicated, so here is everything you need to know about Grasping Orchid in the Genesis Tree in Path of Exile 2.
Grasping Orchid Details
You are going to find the Grasping Orchid next to the Genesis Tree, right inside the Monastery of the Keepers area found on Atlas. If you haven’t started the Breach questline or unlocked the Genesis Tree in your game, you won’t be able to access the Grasping Orchid. The first thing we’ll tackle is unlocking the Genesis Tree; then we will move on to the Grasping Orchid.

How to Unlock the Genesis Tree in Path of Exile 2

Open up the Atlas map and head to the giant white mountain with purple nodes around it, as seen in the image above. This purple section is called the Breach area. On the mountain, you will find the Monastery of the Keeper route; just click on Traverse to open up the portal and head inside the new place.
Go through the portal, and you will be greeted by the NPC Ailith; she will give you the details about the Monastery of the Keepers and the Genesis Tree in the location. After the dialogue exchange, follow her, and she will lead you to the Genesis Tree. If you look to the right of the HUD, you will have a brand new quest activated, “Keepers of the Flame.”
How to Unlock the Grasping Orchid in Path of Exile 2
Now we can focus on unlocking Grasping Orchid; it also has multilayer mechanics to it. First, we will need to unlock the Flesh Flower Atlas skill, then grab the item The Head of Vruun (Quest Item) to unlock Grasping Orchid near the Genesis Tree in Path of Exile 2.
Unlocking the Flesh Flower Atlas Skill

Head over to Atlas Skill, and here you need to unlock the skill “Flesh Flower“. The skill you are looking for is on the right side of the Breach-related tree, as seen in the image above. The entire skill circle has around 32 skills, but you don’t have to add all 32 skill nodes; you will need 4 skill points that lead to Flesh Flower. I’ve marked the four points in the image with a yellow circle, so you will know what path to take to unlock the skill node. You will need to get: Wombgift Quantity> Frantic Invasion > Hiveblood Quantity > Flesh Flower.
Getting the Head of Vruun Quest Item
If you read the description for Flesh Flower, it tasks you with killing Vruun, Marshal of Xesht, a mini-boss, to unlock the Grasping Orchid. Once defeated, the mini-boss will drop the Quest Item ‘The Head of Vruun‘; adding this specific item to the genesis tree will unlock the Grasping Orchid.

The next question is: how do you find this mini-boss? Just open up Atlas and look for map nodes with the words “Area contains Breaches.” If you look at the image above, I’ve marked the map with the Breaches encounters on their descriptions. Once you find a map containing Breaches, enter the map to face the mini-boss, Vruun, Marshal of Xesht. Defeating the boss will drop the item we are looking for: The Head of Vruun.
Note: Defeating the boss will also drop a Lineage Support Gem: Vruun’s Aftermath (Lv. 65/ Warcry).
Now with the Head of Vruun in our possession, travel back to the Monastery of the Keepers, talk to Ailith, and then interact with the Genesis Tree to spawn or create the Grasping Orchid near the tree.
How to Use the Grasping Orchid in Path of Exile 2

When you click on the Grasping Orchid near the Genesis Tree, it will open its own window on the left side of the HUD. Here, you will see a tiny purple box with the number 0/60 written on the top and the Exchange button at the bottom. Hovering the mouse over the Exchange button lets us know that we will need around 60 Breach Rings to activate the Grasping Orchid to obtain the reward, the Grasping Mail (Body armor) in return.
Note: The 60 Breach Rings for Grasping Orchid can be made from any type the list includes: Enthalpic Ring/ Cryonic Ring/ Synaptic Ring/ Organic Ring/ and lastly, Fugitive Ring. The rings can also be corrupted, split, or Unidentified for compatibility.
Farming Breach Rings for the Grasping Orchid:

Just complete maps containing Breaches, and you get Hiveblood (Breach Currency) in return. Then invest the Hiveblood in the Genesis Tree in the Monastery of the Keepers to get Breach Rings. By default, you might not see a few Breach Ring drops from your investment of Hiveblood into the tree; luckily, there are ways to raise the Breach Ring drop chance and always get even better quality ring spawns from the Genesis Tree.
To make farming easier, head to the Genesis Tree and grab “Otherworldly Clutch” (Allows birthed items to have a 10% chance to be Breach Rings) under the Ring Womb section of the tree. I’ve marked the nodes with yellow circles to help you find them easily in the game. Unlike Flesh Flower, which took four skills to reach the spot, here you just need to get one:
Ring Womb > Modifier Level > Otherworldly Clutch
Note: If you are planning to sell Breach Rings in the market, then get the Refined Grip skill node (Marked with an orange diamond icon on the image). This specific node adds a 5% chance to make your common Breach Rings into Refined Breach Rings. The node is located on the left branch of the Otherworldly Clutch.
Another way to acquire the Breach Rings is by spending currency in the market; they do cost a lot, since they are linked to endgame crafting. Be prepared to spend a lot of currency to grab them off the market.
Once you add 60/60 Breach Rings into the Grasping Orchid, you will get Grasping Mail, body armor, as a reward.
