Palworld’s 1.0 update has finally opened up the secret World Tree area. You can set this up as your new base, find new resources, and even fight a new boss. You can visit the starting area of the World Tree from the get-go, but you will find a barrier blocking the surroundings. There is also an altar nearby that you can interact with, but nothing’s going to happen.
It took me a while to realize I needed one of the newer Pals to help unlock the barrier. This Pal is locked behind the Panthalus main story quest, and I have put below all the steps you need to complete to unlock the World Tree.
How to Access the World Tree in Palworld 1.0

You unlock the World Tree by defeating and capturing Panthalus. This happens as part of the Panthalus quest, and the quest-giver is a mysterious researcher NPC at Deserted Islet. To reach this NPC, do this set of steps:
- Find and disable all 6 beacons scattered across the island to get access to the tower
- Speak to Auri at Sky Islands (-432, -1424). Auri and Shaolong are the Tower Bosses for Sky Islands, and you can interact with them after defeating them.
- After defeating the pair, speak to Auri to find out about the mysterious NPC.

Once you speak to him, he will tell you about his research on an ancient civilization and his quest to locate 4 giant Echobone remains. Do note, though – if you are on multiplayer, all players will need to disable the 6 beacons to proceed ahead.
You can also reach the NPC directly, apparently, if you know the location (172,33) – some players have reported it. However, in my playthrough, I completed the chain of steps to unlock the NPC then.
How to Complete the Panthalus Quest
After completing the conversation, he will hand over the Faded Schematic for the Echoing Flute, which is required to summon the Panthalus. Check your map after that to find four marked locations where the Echobones are.
Visit each location and land on the large whale bones. Look around the area for an interactable item, then click it to add the Echobone to your collection. Below are the locations you need to visit and the types of bones you can collect there.
| Bone | Location | Coordinates |
| Marine Echobone | Near starting base area | 125, -525 |
| Seafoam Echobone | Mount Obsidian | -517, -549 |
| Silent Echobone | Verdant Brook | 356, -110 |
| Tidewind Echobone | Astral Mountains | -262, 485 |
Summoning the Panthalus

Head back to your base and craft the Echoing Flute using the four pieces of Echobones. You don’t need an advanced workbench, as even a basic workbench is enough to craft the Echoing Flute. Place an Anubis to work on the flute to craft it quickly. I would also suggest crafting a few spheres of the highest kind, like the Exotic, Sol, or Ancient Spheres.
Collect the Echoing Flute and head back to the Deserted Islet researcher NPC. He will start playing the flute, which will summon the Panthalus for a boss fight. Defeating the Panthalus is quite easy, as long as you have crafted a high-damage ranged weapon like the Legendary rocket launcher to use here.
I don’t recommend using any Pals for battle, but you could use them as a distraction. The Panthalus has only a few attacks, such as the bubbles that will deal damage if it hits you, and the large wave that you can fly or jump and glide over. Keep using your choice of weapon to bring its health down, then use a sphere to capture it.
Unlocking the World Tree
Now that you have the new Panthalus Pal, you can unlock the barrier surrounding the World Tree at coordinates (-836, 710). First, return to the Deserted Islet NPC and tell him about the new Pal. He will guide you to find the World Tree, which is located in the northwestern section of the map.
Bring a flying or swimming Pal to reach the World Tree. Over here, interact with the altar to access the brand-new area. Beyond this, you can find new resources and also take a shot at the new Tower Boss here.
