Code Vein 2’s Mask of Idris DLC is the first major expansion you can enjoy. That said, if you’re looking to start the expansion and don’t see it on the menu, you likely haven’t earned access yet. The DLC is gated behind specific story progress. But if you are a confused soul like me, it could have tripped you up into assuming that it should be available from the start.
In this guide, I will show you how you can begin the Mask of Idris DLC in Code Vein 2.
How to Unlock and Start The Mask of Idris DLC in Code Vein 2

Before the Mask of Idris DLC becomes available to you, two things must be ensured in your playthrough:
- You must reach the “Luna Fraterna” ending in Code Vein 2’s main story.
- You need to advance the “Valentin’s Request” questline.
Remember, you need to meet both conditions in order to begin the DLC. If you reach Luna Fraterna alone, without advancing in the questline, you cannot unlock the expansion.
Why is Mask of Idris Locked Until Post-Game
Bandai Namco intentionally built this DLC for post-game. This is mainly due to the difficult nature of the enemies and bosses you will be facing inside the expansion. If you are in mid-campaign, unfortunately, Namco has not given you an option to access the DLC right now. Regardless of how far you have come otherwise, you still have to reach the ending and finish Valentin’s questline.
Do You Need to Buy The DLC Separately?

This completely depends on the edition of Code Vein 2 you have purchased.
- Deluxe and Ultimate Edition Owners: These players will get the Mask of Idris included at no extra cost.
- Standard Edition Owners: These players will have to purchase the expansion separately.
What Is Coming With the Free Update 2.0 for Code Vein 2
Alongside the Mask of Idris DLC for Code Vein 2, Bandai Namco is also introducing the free Update 2.0 patch. This will be available to every player, regardless of your edition. Moreover, you will get this update for free even if you don’t own the DLC itself. The patch is set to add new methods of exploring the post-game world with your companions.
The developers are also adding a bunch of system adjustments that were directly shaped by community feedback. Once you finish the Mask of Idris storyline, the game will unlock “Another Color” alternate outfits for all 14 companion characters. This is massive, as it is worth playing the game even after you beat the DLC.
What Can You Expect in Mask of Idris?

Once I unlocked the DLC in Code Vein 2, I was impressed by the Forsaken World that the game introduces to you. It is a realm that is formed from the emotional remnants of collapsed timelines. At the center, you can spot the Spindle of Pathos, which is a growing vortex that pulls fragments from across time and space. When you arrive in the world, you find that it is now threatening the main game’s reality as well.

In this journey, you will pick up two new companions: The first one is Liv Voda, who is an aggressive melee fighter with a halberd and the Formae ability Chariot Rave. The second companion is an altered version of Lou Magmell. You can expect new weapons, Formae abilities, and new bosses that will challenge your endgame-level build. Hence, expect a tough time with enemies, but also a beautifully crafted story and world design.
That concludes the complete guide on how to begin the Mask of Idris DLC in Code Vein 2, along with what you can expect and for whom it is available. I recommend dealing with Valentin’s quest fully; otherwise, you may get locked out once you finish the game, even with the Luna Fraterna ending.
