After beating Big Walk, you may initially feel a little empty; I know I did. But fortunately, there’s still more to do in the indie adventure title. One of the better puzzles you can tackle after you beat the game is collecting Purple Gourds to then unlock the true ending in Big Walk. These are post-game rewards that offer seven co-op puzzles.
That being said, you have to unlock them first. In this guide, I will show you the exact location of the Purple Gourds so you and your friends can jump right into them after finishing the game.
Finding All Purple Gourd Locations in Big Walk
Every Purple Gourd can be found in the Challenge Ridge, which is on the far eastern side of the island. Here’s how you can get there:
- Beat the main story of Big Walk. The Purple Gourds won’t unlock till you have reached the first ending, which is the Big Goodbye.
- After beating the game and loading into the map again, ride the chairlift to the eastern ridge station. You have to unlock it first by collecting five Red Gourd items from nearby puzzles.
- Once in the station, look towards the right for a purple tunnel. After getting to the other end of it, you will find all the challenges located there.
While it is technically possible to reach Challenge Ridge before you beat the game, you will have to do that by travelling through unconventional routes. Also, the challenges you clear early on in the game will still register after you finish the game. That said, my recommendation will be to beat the game first and come back here the intended way.
All seven purple markers will show up on the large map after you travel through the tunnel. This made my life easier as I did not have to track them down individually.
Solving The Purple Gourd Challenges
I would highly recommend relying on signals and practicing them beforehand before you begin the puzzles. Here’s how each puzzle looks:
Wait 30 Minutes House: This puzzle will have you locked inside the house and press the button to start the timer. This is a relatively simple one, as there’s nothing to solve, but to test your patience. It completes automatically after 30 minutes, as the name suggests.
Golf: You will find a golf hole with no balls nearby. You will be required to carry one from the Red Blorb golf course in the Red area, all the way through the mountain pass into the Green section.
Many Lights Everywhere: In this one, one of your buddies will read the lightbulb sequence, and you will press the matching wall buttons in a different room. I suggest splitting the zones beforehand so both of you can work off the same mental map.
9 Speakers But You Can’t Talk: This is the most difficult one. One of you will have to listen to nine sounds and convey their positions to a teammate who is placing the speakers. You will have to do it with the help of taps or gestures, as you cannot talk.
9 Symbols But You Can’t Talk: It is essentially the same idea as before, but this time with visual symbols being the twist. This will be a little easier since these symbols are easy to remember and describe to your friend.
36 Drawings: This is a matching puzzle with a massive rack of identical-looking plates. You will have to be very specific and describe things like shapes and outlines. Do go for the minute details, as they can save your group a lot of time.
Platforming, But Do It Fast: This puzzle is a timed version of a course that you encounter earlier in the game. Remember taking off equipped backpacks first, as they can snag into tight gaps and slow you down.
If your team is stuck on a puzzle that involves hearing or quick reactions, the host can easily enable challenge skipping from the accessibility section of the game. This option exists so no puzzle can block your progress permanently.
What Happens After Beating all 7 Purple Gourds in Big Walk
After you have successfully beaten all the Purple Gourds in Big Walk, you officially reach full completion. Finishing all purple challenges, alongside anything you have skipped in your first playthrough, will offer you a final key, which appears near the start of the island. This unlocks a hidden room and leads to Big Walk’s true ending.
