The Malfeasance in Destiny 2 is a highly sought-after hand cannon that was previously locked behind a DLC-only quest. But now that Bungie has made it available to all players, you can finish the Darkness In The Light quest to get your hands on the exotic weapon.

How To Complete Destiny 2 Darkness In The Light Quest

To complete the Darkness In The Light quest in Destiny 2, you will have to achieve the following objectives in this order:

  • The Seething Heart: Collect a Seething Heart and bring it back to the Drifter.
  • City of Secrets: Kill 25 Taken enemies who are either minibosses or bosses at Dreaming City.
  • The Corrupted: Finish the alternate version of The Corrupted Strike.
  • The Depleted Weapon Core: Collect the Depleted Weapon Core you got from completing “The Corrupted” Strike and bring it back to the Drifter.
  • Business As Usual: Win 10 Gambit matches and deposit 500 motes.
  • Lights Out:
    1. Get 25 guardian kills in Gambit.
    2. Defeat all four guardians of an enemy team after invading them in Gambit. Only requires to be done once if done by you but three times if it’s done by a member of your team.
  • Dark Weapon Core: Speak to the Drifter at The Tower to finish the quest.

Now that you know everything that is required, let’s go in-depth on each of these steps and how you can complete these objectives easily.

How To Get The Seething Heart

The Seething Heart is acquired as a reward for defeating the Ascendant Primeval Servitor boss in Gambit. It can take a few rounds of Gambit for this boss to appear since it has a random chance of spawning.

Once you have defeated the Primeval and have the Seething Heart, you will need to win that match of Gambit. After that, bring the Seething Heart to The Drifter in Dreaming City to complete the first step of the Darkness In The Light quest.

Gambit is a PvE + PvP mode, so make sure you are well-prepared and geared up before attempting it. Doing all your weekly quests can ensure you are strong enough with properly leveled gear to attempt this. From my experience, I advise you to LFG a team rather than doing it solo.

City of Secrets

For this step, you need to defeat 25 Taken bosses and minibosses in Dreaming City. Here is the easiest and fastest way to do so:

  1. Head to Dreaming City and go to The Shattered Throne dungeon.
  2. Shortly after it starts, a Labyrinth Architect with a yellow health bar will spawn. The yellow health bar indicates it’s a boss enemy.
  3. Kill the Labyrinth Architect and simply jump off the map. This will now respawn you to a checkpoint right before the Labyrinth Architect.
  4. Eliminate it again and repeat these steps to farm this boss until your quest objective is completed.

The Corrupted Strike

The next step requires you to complete a special version of The Corrupted Strike that is accessible after completing City of Secrets. Here is how you can access this alternate version:

  1. Head to Rheasilvia in Dreaming City and head to the top of the Awoken architecture by following your objective.Destiny 2: Darkness In The Light Quest Guide - - News | | GamesHorizon
  2. Fight the enemies here, then scan the anomaly floating in the air at the edge of the lookout.
  3. Now jump off the cliff and head straight down to the cave entrance where you can enter the Ascendant Planes.darkness in the light quest destiny 2
  4. Progress through the strike as usual and head deeper underground in search of Callum Sol until you encounter the Yachaar boss fight.
  5. Defeat the boss and complete the Strike. You will now have the Depleted Weapon Core.

Depleted Weapon Core

Once you complete The Corrupted Strike and get the Depleted Weapon Core, simply head back to The Drifter in The Tower and hand it back to him. He will now task you with the next step in the Darkness In The Light quest.

Business As Usual

To complete this step, you will need to win 10 Gambit matches and also deposit 500 motes in Gambit matches. Keep in mind that any number of motes that you happen to die with will be deducted from your total of 500.

Because of this, it can be a particularly annoying step to complete. The way I did it was to prioritize depositing motes even if it’s a smaller amount like 10. Getting to 500 can take a long while so make sure you get help from some fellow guardians trying to do the same step.

Winning 10 matches and depositing 500 motes will push you onto the next step.

Lights Out

There are two requirements to complete this step of the Darkness In The Light quest:

  • Kill 25 Guardians in Gambit
  • Invade A Team Of Guardians In Gambit And Get All Four Kills

Kill 25 Guardians in Gambit

The first requirement is to successfully kill 25 guardians in Gambit. This requires an enemy team of Guardians to invade you or your team to invade another team. The final killing blow is what counts as a kill, so with proper teamwork you can achieve this easily.

Invade A Team Of Guardians In Gambit And Get All Four Kills

For this requirement, you and your team will need to invade an enemy team in Gambit and one player needs to get the kill on all 4 enemy guardians. You only need to do this once if you do it yourself, but you will need to do it three times if it is being done by a teammate.

With proper communication between your teammates, this can be achieved with some practice. It will require you to learn the Gambit maps well, so it might take a while if you are new to it.

Dark Weapon Core

After completing all of the steps above, speak with The Drifter at The Tower to finally finish the Destiny 2 Darkness In The Light quest. You will now be rewarded with the Malfeasance Exotic Hand Cannon.
