Post-apocalyptic blues have hit OTT screens this summer as the Fallout TV Series has made its way to Amazon Prime Video. Naturally, fans have questions about what’s going on in the show as it relates to the official Fallout universe. Among those burning questions is one regarding the show’s canonical place in the universe.
Is The Fallout TV Show Canon? Answered
Yes, the Fallout TV Show is canon within the Fallout universe. Todd Howard, executive producer for Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, in an interview with Vanity Fair established a connection between the TV show and the games.
According to him, showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan had made a script that could synchronize well with the established lore of the previous games. “We view what’s happening in the show as canon,” said Howard about the show’s canon.
The series being set in the Fallout universe is quite apparent as we see a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles which is a notable location in the first Fallout. The iconic faction, the Brotherhood of Steel also makes an appearance in the show.
Every Fallout game has a different story and isn’t focused on a single character throughout the games. Each story is set in a different time after the Great War of 2077. This flexibility allows the creators of the show to be unique with their takes but also have room to incorporate geeky easter eggs, callbacks, and recognizable elements seen in the Fallout games.
Talking about the show itself, Jonathan Nolan went so far as to say that the TV show might act as a pseudo-sequel to the games. Nolan said, “Our series sits in relation to the games as the games sit in relation to each other, It’s almost like we’re Fallout 5.”
We know there’s a Fallout 5 on the horizon, but the Amazon Prime TV Show acts as a satisfactory appetizer before the main course. For all your post-apocalyptic needs, check out our Fallout Page.
