Top Games I Want to See at Gamescom

Gamescom is right around the corner on August 20, 2025, with George Keighley hosting the big show. It’s always the place where some of the most exciting games of the year get new trailers, gameplay reveals, or even surprise announcements.

Instead of waiting for the stage lights to illuminate, I want to share the titles that I’m personally excited to see more of at Gamescom this year. While there is no guarantee that we’ll see these games at the show, I really think there will be a lot of great games revealed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

It wouldn’t be Gamescom without a Call of Duty showcase, and Black Ops 7 is in that slot this year. The real excitement here is multiplayer. We haven’t seen a breakdown of game modes, maps, or Zombies yet, so this event is the perfect time to lay it all out. Call of Duty always dominates the conversation, and this reveal will decide how hyped players are going into the launch season. We thought XDefiant may have come strong, but it looks like CoD is going to stay the top FPS game.

Outer Worlds 2

Xbox Game Studios

We already saw a glimpse of Outer Worlds 2 during Summer Games Fest, but Gamescom is where we expect a deeper look. Xbox has a heavy presence this year, and this RPG is going to be one of its main showcases. The first game had its charm with choice-driven storylines and humour, so seeing how Obsidian expands on that formula is something we can expect. A longer gameplay segment would be perfect, something that shows not just the world design but also the combat improvements.

Ghost of Yōtei

Sony’s lineup is usually strong at Gamescom, and Ghost of Yōtei is its standout this year. A bit of gameplay has already been revealed, but the focus now is on more in-depth footage and possibly a comparison across PS5 and PS5 Pro. Fans will be watching closely to see how polished the combat looks and whether the story hooks them right away. If Sony drops a big new trailer, it’ll be a highlight of the show.

Resident Evil Requiem

CAPCOM

Capcom’s next chapter in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil Requiem, is expected to get a full gameplay reveal at Gamescom. The ninth mainline entry after Village (2021), it introduces FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, investigating brutal murders in a mysterious hotel. The game was officially announced during the Summer Game Fest 2025, and I’m curious to see which direction it will take. More than anything, it would be great if the instalment connects to the ongoing storylines of the series.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

No list of anticipated Gamescom titles feels complete without Hollow Knight: Silksong. At this point, fans aren’t looking for surprise features, we’re just waiting on a release date. The game is already known to be phenomenal; it’s more about when it’s finally landing in our hands. A confirmed 2025 launch window would be the news everyone’s been begging for.

Last but not least, Grounded 2. This sequel has grown into something way bigger than people expected. With roadmap updates already teased, Gamescom is the chance to confirm what’s next. New monsters, more weapons, and an expanded map are all on the table. I’m especially interested in how they expand the social and survival elements, which made the first game stand out. If they drop a big DLC reveal, this could easily be a sleeper highlight of the show.

Gamescom tends to have a lot of surprises every year, but I really hope it hits on a few games I’ve been waiting for. Sure, it’s a longshot, especially with the amount of ads that Gamescom needs to add in to make the show profitable. Still, if we can get at least a little more information on the games I mentioned, then it will be a successful show in my opinion.
