Gameplay
Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections continues the traditional fighting game style of the Storm series, where it narrates Naruto’s story through epic battles, allowing players to embody their beloved characters. The gameplay is characterized by rapid, action-packed combat that demands skillful combos and effective use of special abilities for victory.
In honor of Naruto’s two-decade legacy, the game boasts the largest character roster in the series, featuring over 130 ninjas. Among these, you’ll encounter new faces like Delta, Boro, and Koji Kashin, members of the Kara organization, who will play a crucial role in the game’s fresh story mode.
Additionally, players can revisit pivotal moments from Naruto’s childhood to his ultimate showdown with Sasuke in a campaign that seamlessly weaves together anime scenes and in-game cinematics.
Confirmed Boss Battles
The game features a mix of both returning and new boss battles. The confirmed boss battles are:
- Naruto Uzumaki vs. Shukaku
- Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha (Part I, Valley of the End)
- Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha (Orochimaru’s Hideout)
- Sasuke Uchiha vs. Itachi Uchiha
- Naruto Uzumaki vs. Pain
- Naruto Uzumaki vs. Kurama
- Hashirama Senju vs. Madara Uchiha
- Sasuke Uchiha/Itachi Uchiha vs. Kabuto Yakushi
- Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha vs. Obito Uchiha
- Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha (Part II, Valley of the End)
These boss battles provide a mix of iconic moments from the series and new challenges for players to experience in the game.
New Modes
History Mode
In Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, aside from the typical arcade and multiplayer modes, there are two special campaigns. One of these is called History mode, which promises to stand out due to its immersive storytelling. In this mode, players can relive the events of the anime, complete with the original voice actors and anime-style cutscenes.
Unlike most fighting games, this mode feels more like a comprehensive action game campaign. It preserves the core gameplay mechanics but spices things up with optional challenges and quick-time events during action-packed sequences.
Essentially, History mode serves as an excellent option for newcomers to the series, offering a streamlined way to experience the story without the need to invest in watching all 500 episodes of the show or reading the entire 72-volume manga series.
Apart from the History Mode, the game will also offer an Offline Versus Mode, as well as an Online Battle Mode that includes both ranked and casual matches.
Special Story Mode
The game also includes a second campaign known as the Special Story. In contrast to the History mode, this campaign offers a completely original storyline centered around Boruto’s adventures within an online game. Unlike the History mode, it doesn’t feature the familiar anime cutscenes or the nostalgic elements associated with the original anime series.
