Star Wars Outlaws is set to be the first open-world video game in the Star Wars franchise and it follows the story of scoundrel Kay Vess in the Outer Rim. The game releases on Aug. 30 of this year and fans of the franchise are excited to see what kind of world Massive Entertainment can come up with in this title. However, hardcore fans of the franchise are concerned about its setting and when in the Star Wars timeline it takes place. Let’s take a look at what the developers have said.
When Does Star Wars Outlaws Take Place?
Star Wars Outlaws takes place in between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi which is set in the Original Trilogy. The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are Episodes V and VI of the Star Wars saga. However, it follows the story of characters we haven’t seen previously in the franchise.
We are going to follow Kay Vess and her “symbiotic” companion Nix as they attempt to conduct one of the biggest heists in the Outer Rim. Aside from these two, we have confirmation of many other characters that will be a nuisance to the protagonists. In addition, we will explore familiar planets like Tatooine, Kijimi, and Akiva. Star Wars Outlaws incorporates many new characters but brings back Jabba the Hutt, who is now confirmed to appear and is a huge part of the original trilogy.
These characters will be the catalyst going forward in the game. Although, the game is yet to be announced as canon by Ubisoft in the Star Wars universe, so it’s unclear what direction the game could end up taking when it launches.
Star Wars Outlaws is set to release on August 30th, 2024 for the PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. To learn more about Star Wars Outlaws ahead of its release, check out our previous guide on every edition of the game and its price.
