The massive Assassins Creed franchise from Ubisoft has some of the most games in it out of any video game series ever. These open-world experiences are all large, with plenty of content to do. With the release of Assassins Creed Shadows now, it is time to come up with the best Assassins Creed game of all time through a proper tier list.
What Is the Best Assassins Creed Game?

Before we hop into the Assassins Creed tier list, it is time to crown the best Assassins Creed game of all time. This will come down to personal preference, however, I would say that it comes down to three main games: Origins, Shadows, or Black Flag. My personal pick as of right now is going to be Origins with Shadows coming in a close second.
Shadows does almost everything right and is the best in almost every single category from the graphics to the story to the characters to even the gameplay. However, it is let down when it comes to exploring the world, which is arguably the worst in the series due to the foliage and prodding nature of it. As such, Origins takes the cake for the series in my opinion.
Assassins Creed Best Games Tier List Including Shadows

Now it is time for the Assassins Creed tier list with all of the mainline games ranked from best to worst. This list includes the recently released Shadows as well, which easily joins Origins and Black Flag in the S tier. Each of the games below are broken up into tiers, ranging from the best games in S tier to the worst games that are in F tier. Note that the order within each tier is in no particular order most of the time.
As for the determination of the tier list below, it is ranked and listed based on the overall gameplay, graphics, presentation, story, characters, open-world map, and content. Content is a massive factor since some of the games do not handle the content well, be it the mandatory content in the main story or the side content.
The S tier games are the epitome of the series’ gameplay, balancing everything well between the content and assassination sides to the story and writing. A tier comes close to the S tier but falls just short in one area or another. B tier is still great, but there are some more noticeable flaws that hold it back. C tier is good, but not great; these are still enjoyable games but nothing truly special. D tier is best seen as a historic part of the series and nothing representative of where the series is today. And F tier is absolutely forgettable and skippable for everyone but the most hardcore fans due to the incredible number of flaws.
- S: Origins, Shadows, Black Flag
- A: Valhalla, Assassins Creed II
- B: Brotherhood, Odyssey, Assassins Creed III, Rogue, Syndicate
- C: Revelations, Unity
- D: Assassins Creed
- F: Mirage
