The Chapter 3 biome in Outbound differs compared to the first two chapters; here, we step into the desert. The Canyon is filled with huge loads of collectibles, along with new materials and ingredients to craft and upgrade the van and equipment further. Most of the collectibles can be grabbed from plain sight, while some have a side quest tied to them. Here we will take a look at all the collectibles found in the Canyon map, the third chapter in Outbound.
List of All Collectibles in Canyon in Outbound
The Canyon has 75 collectibles scattered around the map. Compared to the collectibles list from Chapters 1 and 2, it’s a bit shorter.
- x21 Campfires
You are going to find 21 of the campfires, and the game will require you to burn a Redwood log to light them up. If you have been saving Redwood from Chapter 2, they will come in very handy. As the map is vastly desert-focused, with little to no signs of Redwood. I highly recommend heading back to chapter 2 and collecting around 50 Redwood logs to make the exploration easier. You will also need Redwood to craft Redwood Plank for various bridge-building materials.
- x25 Cairns
Cairns are going to be easier to spot in this chapter, since it’s a pretty open, wide area with nothing blocking the view. Every object will stick out like a sore thumb; Cairns can be spotted in high places, and you are not going to have any difficulty tracking them down.
- x25 Gnome
The yellow-orangish color helps the Gnome tracking easier, since the Gnomes in the game are colorful in nature, picking them off will be far easier compared to the first two maps. One Gnome in this chapter is tied to a side quest that requires the materials located in Chapter 4; other than that, you will be able to get 24 Gnomes in Chapter 3.
- x4 Paintings
Just like the previous chapters, there are only a few paintings, four of them that can easily be found on the map.
All the collectibles in Chapter 3 can be tracked or viewed in your journal to help you keep track of them.

All Campfire Locations in the Canyon Map
Campfires are built the same as the other campfires we encountered in the previous map. Fortunately, the game doesn’t introduce a new type of wood in this chapter, so we have to resort to using the Redwood logs to light the campfires. However, if you have fewer of these logs in your storage, you are going to have a rough time in Chapter 3. Since the map in Chapter 3 has a very limited supply of these Redwoods, I would highly recommend heading back to the Chapter 2 area and picking up around 50 to 70 Redwoods in your storage, to be on the safer side of things.
You will also encounter various bridges and equipment that will require Redwood Plank, so having more Redwood logs will never hurt. The map does feature some areas where you will find the Redwood Plank lying around, but I wouldn’t rely on them.
All Cairns Locations in the Canyon Map
The desert theme blends well in highlighting the Cairns throughout the area. Since vast patches of the Canyon map are desolate, filled with nothing but sand, you will have a far easier time locating the Cairns on ledges and rocky structures around the map. All of them can be spotted out in the open without any ties to side quests.
Just interact with the Cairns to complete them; you can interact with them again, but it will not grant any bonus or achievements. There is one Cairn on the bottom-right of the map, but it is hidden behind the POI mark icon. I’ve marked the spot with a red circle to help you find it easily.

All Gnomes Locations in the Canyon Map
While most Gnomes are easier to track down and obtainable, out of 25, a single one (The Research Center) is tied to a quest. The quest requires you to gather 5 items (Pak Choi, Chrome Ore, Lotus Flower, Cherries, and Bamboo), 4 of which are found on the fourth map or final map in the game. So, prepare to get 24 Gnomes on your collectible run on Chapter 3; the last one will require us to complete the game by finishing Chapter 4. And then heading back to Chapter 3 and putting all the ingredients to complete the side quest and get the item.
Just like Cairns, Gnomes are hidden on the map at two specific locations, under the icon for the points of interest. I’ve marked them with red circles to highlight their locations.
All Painting Locations in the Canyon Map
Lastly, we have paintings; they are much easier to find as there are only a few of them on the map, just like the last two maps in Outbound. Just interact with the paintings on the wall to add them to the collectible list.
That’s it, now you can move on to the Coast area, and head bottom-left of the map to get into the Mountain (Chapter 4), the final area in Outbound.
