Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag had charming and memorable characters that cross paths with Kenway during his journey. In Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft added a way of preserving those memories, in the form of hand-painted portraits; and if not as materially rewarding as collecting all the Ultimate Plans for the Jackdaw, you do unlock an achievement.
So, for all completionist enthusiasts who can’t get enough of Ubisoft’s overhaul of one of the best games in the AC franchise, in this guide, I will cover the locations of all 11 character portraits to unlock The Memory of My Enemy trophy/achievement.
You can do these in any order, and I recommend that you complete the main story before embarking on this. The reason is that a few of the character portraits unlock only after certain points in the main story, so might as well wait till everything’s done and dusted and then collect these.
Portrait #1: Julien Du Casse

Coordinates: 827, 443
Julien Du Casse is the first major Templar influencer that comes to Edward’s radar as a target. You can collect his portrait during or after the main story sequence 03, in the final memory called ‘A Single Madman’ at the Great Inagua. While searching for Du Casse, you will get a hint that he might be in his manor. And in a sense – he is. At the above coordinates, there is a portrait of him and a perfumed note beside it.
Portrait # 2: Laureano de Torres

Coordinates: 224, 595
To obtain the portrait of the Governor himself, head to the above coordinates. There aren’t any conditions to be met here, and since the location is in Havana, you can get to collecting it as early as the “And My Sugar..?” quest. However, exercise caution since it is inside a heavily fortified castle with guards roaming all over.
Portrait #3: El Tiburon

Coordinates: 204, 608
This is another portrait situated in Havana, again, with no specific conditions to meet. Simply head inside the castle and you will find it beside a wooden crate.
Portrait #4: Commodore Chamberlaine

Coordinates: 588, 757
This is also one of the portraits you can get early in the game. The only condition is to get to Nassau, which is part of Sequence 03 Memory 02: Now Hiring. Once you lay anchor, go to the above coordinates to a huge mansion and a conveniently placed ladder beside an open window. Climb in to spot the portrait above the sofa.
Portrait #5: Woodes Rogers

Coordinates: 618, 171
You need to complete Sequence 12 Memory 01: A Governor No Longer in order to unlock this portrait. Once you have done that, head to the coordinates 618,171 in Kingston to collect it from an open hallway.
Portrait #6: Laurens Prins

Coordinates: 594, 174
You must complete Sequence 05 Memory 03: Unmanned to unlock this portrait. Once done, go to the location, which is, of course, the manor of Prins himself. Climb in through the window to his personal chambers to see the portrait beside a Task List.
Portrait #7: Ben Hornigold

Coordinates: 191, 223
Once a close ally of Edward’s, Hornigold’s portrait can’t be collected late into the game, since it is on a high-level island called Santanillas in the Chinchorro region. Head to the location and collect it from the ship’s deck.
Portrait #8: Bartholomew Roberts

Coordinates: 113, 20
One of the key characters of the game, Bartholomew Roberts aka The Sage kick-starts the entire Black Flag story by failing to preserve his blood from the Templars. You can unlock his portrait after completing Sequence 09 Memory 02: Trust is Earned. You will find the portrait in Principe, inside a tent near a stack of cargo.
Portrait #9: Blackbeard

Edward Thatch, or as he is more popularly known, Blackbeard, requires you to complete a quest of his own to obtain the painting. The quest is unlocked after Sequence 08 Memory 01: Do Not Go Gently and is called “Blackbeard’s Treasure”. Even though now dead, Blackbeard manages to leave Kenway with a parting gift – a map inside his hat.
The quest requires you to raid a pirate base accessible only via underwater tunnels. Once finished, you can return to the Great Inagua and follow the quest marker which will lead you to a chest containing Blackbeard’s portrait.
Portrait #10: Stede Bonnet

Following Kenway’s advice, Stede sails for Nassau leaving behind his ordinary life. After you complete Sequence 08 Memory 03: Marooned, you will find a letter from him waiting for you at the hideout in Great Inagua – He wants you to check up on his ship, The Revenge. Follow along the quest as it plays through, at the end of which you will come into a room with various of Stede’s belongings, including his portrait.
Portrait #11: Robert Maynard

You will get this portrait as a part of the epilogue questline, A World Without Gold. It becomes available after Sequence 11 Memory 03: Everything is Permitted. While remaining spoiler-free, we can only inform you that Edward is asked to collect a treasure, but instead of the gold you find this portrait.
Note: Some sources also report you NEED to recruit Lucy and Padre as officers.
Once you have obtained all the portraits, head back to your manor in Great Iguana and put all of them on display. This will unlock The Memory of My Enemy achievement. It also counts towards another achievement called Dilettante.
