Baghead quest is one of the philosophical journeys into Mortal Shell 2 and its world. Unlike most quests, where the finale leads to some huge battle against a boss or rewards, the Baghead quest follows an unusual route. Here you are not bound to typical quest tasks, but rather actions to complete the tasks that lie ahead. Think of Crestfallen Warrior or Siegmeyer of Catarina in the first Dark Souls, where every interaction led to some dreadful discovery.
Completing the quest also unlocks a hidden ending with an amazing soundtrack that plays at the end. Here we will take a look at how to start the Baghead quest and the options you must choose to move the quest forward and finally complete it.
Baghead Quest Guide
The quest is rather simple and takes place in the small area in Desolate Peak. It’s the area found in the western section of the Fainweald region, as shown on the map above.
Here, next to the camp with the small bonfire, sits Baghead on his chair surrounded by his followers. Walk up to Baghead and start your conversation, and you will learn he is a man who seeks nothing in life. Exhaust all the dialogue to move the quest forward.
- First Action: “Now take a sit, mate. Relax.” – Here, Baghead asks you to relax; all you have to do is just sit anywhere in the area around Baghead, just like his followers around him. You don’t have to sit for too long; just a few seconds of lying down is fine.
Then talk to Baghead again, and the conversation will lead to a question ending with “You think you’re any different?”, answer it by choosing “Yes“. This will move the quest forward with the second request.
- Second Action: “There’s something I want…Something special. It ain’t hard to find, but it’s… rarely enjoyed.” – While it might look simple, there’s more to this request. Just across from Baghead, by the stone doorway, you will find the item “Special Moonshine“. Grab the item and hand it over to Baghead to complete his request. Here, Baghead will ask you a few sets of questions, and you must answer them right to move the quest forward.
- Question #1: “You think this is what I want?” Answer by saying “No”. Now head back to the place where you picked up the Special Moonshine and interact with the same exact spot to put the moonshine back. The game will inform you on the HUD by showing “- 1 Special Moonshine.”
- Question #2: “So, that’s it? You’re bringing me nothing?”, here choose “Yes“. Baghead will follow this question with one final question.
- Question #3: “This is your final chance.” Answer by selecting “Yes”.
That’s it now; a cutscene will trigger of Baghead playing the guitar by doing nothing, completing the quest and unlocking the hidden ending. The initial lines do show what kind of character Baghead is in the game; he is a man who seeks nothing. Bringing him anything does go against the entire persona of Baghead. Even when he is asking for something special, he lets out a certain clue pointing to the fact that nothing is the best gift you could find in the world.
