Metal Gear Solid 4 is finally available on PC through the METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.2 on Steam, and it’s a sigh of relief for gamers, since the title was locked to the PS3 for almost two decades. As I was replaying Kojima’s masterpiece, I found myself hunting collectibles in the game, including the infamous five hard-to-find Dolls. Unlike most collectibles in MGS4, these Dolls are not found out in the open.
You must also know that every Doll is directly tied to how Solid Snake handles a specific boss fight. This usually doesn’t end well for gamers who go guns blazing. In this guide, I will explain how you can find all the Dolls in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
All Five Dolls at a Glance in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
The five Dolls in Metal Gear Solid 4 that you will be looking for are tied to different encounters and boss fights within the game. Here’s a quick look at them:
| Doll Name | Act Number | Tied To |
| FROG Soldier | Act 1 | The Rat Patrol / Advent Palace encounter |
| Laughing Octopus | Act 2 | Beauty and the Beast fight |
| Raging Raven | Act 3 | Beauty and the Beast fight |
| Crying Wolf | Act 4 | Beauty and the Beast fight |
| Screaming Mantis | Act 5 | Beauty and the Beast fight |
What is the Core Rule Behind Every Doll in MGS4

Looking at the lore, the Beauty and the Beast unit in Metal Gear Solid 4 is a group of specially trained female soldiers who suffer from serious PTSD. The name of the unit is based on the two forms that they bring into the battle: their Beauty form (base phase), which you fight initially, before they transform into their Beast form (second phase).
But before you get excited and rush through your collectible hunt, you shouldn’t forget the one requirement that applies to all five Dolls: you must clear the associated Beauty and the Beast encounter non-lethally. When you encounter the Dolls in their boss fights, you must beat their Beast form by draining its stamina bar rather than chipping away at their health bar.
If you kill any of these enemies outright using lethal weapons, the Doll won’t appear, and you will miss out on a collectible. And for that reason, it is worth being deliberate about your loadout before you head into each of the fights with the Beauty and the Beast unit.
FROG Soldier Doll (Act 1)

This is the first Doll in the game you will encounter who is tied to the Rat Patrol sequence inside the Advent Palace. You can get through this encounter without killing any FROG soldiers. Once the bulldozer breaks through and you regain control inside the garage afterward, head back and check near the tire in the corner. You will find the Doll sitting right there.
Laughing Octopus (Act 2)

This will be your first Beauty and the Beast fight in the game. Make sure to drain the Beast form stamina of the boss, instead of killing it. Then head into the lab and check the beds. You can find the Doll resting on one of them.
Raging Raven Doll (Act 3)

This fight will take place inside a tower, where the Doll is tucked away on the topmost floor. As for the other bosses, you will only find them after handling the Beast form non-lethally. I highly recommend looking the area thoroughly, as I almost missed this one.
Crying Wolf Doll (Act 4)

Crying Wolf’s Doll can also be easy to miss, only due to how close it actually is. After the non-lethal takedown you perform on the Doll’s Beast form, look directly behind where the fight began initially. You can find it sitting against the wall, ready for you to collect.
Screaming Mantis Doll (Act 5)

The final Doll requires Solid Snake to clear out both phases of the Screaming Mantis boss fight non-lethally. Once you have done that, turn around and look back the way you entered the boss area originally. You can find the Doll waiting in the lower level of the computer room, along the north side of the corridor.
What Do You Get for Collecting All Five Dolls in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

After you have collected all Dolls in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, you unlock the Solar Gun, which is an exclusive reward for players who complete the full non-lethal set. You can also check your progress on any Dolls you have collected aboard the Nomad, near the kitchen and TV area, after you watch the briefing.
That wraps up the guide for collecting all five Dolls in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Act by Act. None of them will ask you to take a special detour to collect them, but just a clean and non-lethal playstyle. I recommend always keeping a tranquilizer loadout ready before heading into each of these fights, as it makes the encounters much easier.
