Some quests put you on a straight line, while others can be a bit complicated, as you must solve layers of objectives, puzzles, and platforming challenges. The Festering Secret quest in Phantom Blade Zero starts starts off simple, but quickly changes into defeating a boss, using items, and unlocking a huge part of the first area to access the secret NPC to complete the quest.
This is a complete walkthrough guide to the Festering Secret quest in Phantom Blade Zero. Here, I will be going through each objective and its location details to help you go through the objective without wasting any precious time. Do note, this quest is somewhat hidden, so the chance of you missing it is high!
Starting the Festering Secret Quest
The quest Festering Secret kicks off on its own when you come across the guards near the Outpost Bell in the “Weeping Creek Valley” region. Here you will find chains blocking the route. We can’t use the normal attack to break those chains; we will need something stronger. Here is the list of tasks we must complete to end the side quest:
- Defeat Peng Meng the Axemaster Boss
- Defeat the Maskwalkers
- Deliver the Document
Defeat Peng Meng the Axemaster Boss
The first task is to defeat the Axemaster Peng Meng boss, a story-related boss fight. You get this encounter near the Valley Outpost in Weeping Creek Valley. Defeating the boss will award you the Dread Axe; this weapon comes with a unique skill that allows you to break iron chains blocking your path, even if you don’t have the axe equipped on your character. You will also unlock the trophy or achievement “The Axe’s Grudge.”
Now with the axe in hand, get to the guard’s location that we encountered during the first objective. Here, use the Dread Axe to break off the chains on the door to get to the other side.
Investigate the Chain-Sealed Courtyard at the Post
Explore the courtyard and head up the stairs to defeat the an enemy that drops the “Sha-Chi Amber Fragment“. After defeating three enemies in the area, you need to find the Swordsman Captain in the region, who will be found at the entrance of the outpost.
Uncover the Truth of how the Mandate Disciples became Maskwalkers
After defeating the enemy, our next objective is to talk to the Swordsman Captain, who is found a bit east of the Outpost bell. Talk to him, and we will get our objective of delivering the document to a specific person along with the “Written Order Wulin Tales Book“. The person in question is the Swordsman Captain’s lieutenant residing in the Sha-Chi Tower outskirts. Unfortunately, the area to the Sha-Chi Tower Outskirts is locked, and the only way to open it is by getting the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp key.
Deliver the Letter & Get the Four Axes Case Files
Once you have the key, make your way to the Creek Valley Plains Entrance. Now head east of the bell’s spot, and you will find the Blue-Robed Swordsman in the area, marked on the image above. Hand over the captain’s order from the Swordsman to the lieutenant. After receiving the document, the Blue-Robed Swordsman will hand us Gu Lingran’s secret letter, and we will also receive the “Four Axes” Case Files.
