Since you will be running a store in a post-apocalyptic setting in Probably Stolen, your customers will demand many basic items. The most sought-after item in your store will be water, and you need to keep a stockpile of fresh, clean water at all times for your customers to drink. But first, you need to collect water and filter it to get the best possible purity out of the water.
This involves several different steps of water purification, and there are different devices and items that will help you in the process. This guide will help you learn how to start the process of purifying water, the required machines to help you do that, and the best ways to get pure water in Probably Stolen.
How to Unlock Water Purification in Probably Stolen

Before getting into the gist of purifying water in Probably Stolen, you need to unlock the potential to purify water. You could either do this at the very start of the game by selecting the Water Merchant specialization, or purchase the Water Trading feature to get the Water Trading Starter Kit.
To purchase Water Trading, head over to Wild’s Network and select it under the Water tab for 300 favors. The Water Trading Starter Kit contains several pieces of equipment to help test the purity of water, but you won’t get any device to actually filter water, save for the Purification Tablets and Water Filter fabrics for the pitcher.
To own a water purifier machine, you need to wait for the Water Trader to visit your store, or purchase it from Dr. Jackson. It will cost you 250 credits to purchase it from either of these merchants. You will also find a more advanced variant of the water purifier called the HydraTech Micro Water Purifier after completing Eleanor’s storyline on Day 28.

How to Get Water

You need to have a steady supply of water in your store first before you can purify water. You could purchase bottles of impure water from scavengers, but the price for it will vary. Another method is to purchase either the Gutterflow on Tap or Rustwater on Tap from Wild’s Network for 250 and 350 favors, respectively.
You could also set up a Moisture Farm by purchasing the materials from Wild’s Network for 350 credits. That way, the device will collect all moisture from the air and convert it into water to be collected in any container you put in.
Best Ways to Get High-Quality Water
There are a handful of easy-to-use methods to turn your base water into high-quality water. Some methods are time-consuming, while other methods are quite instant.
Using the Water Purifier

I always recommend using the Water Purifier to instantly get high-quality water. First, get any container and fill it with Rustwater or Gutterflow water, or pick up a water bottle obtained from scavengers. Then place it into a Water Purifier, leave it overnight, and check the next day to get High Quality Water.
Using the UV Lamp and Pitcher with Filter
The second method is to run a UV lamp over the bottle of water, then place a filter on the pitcher and run the water through it to filter out more impurities. The second filtration method is only viable for water that is already at a near-drinkable quality, as anything below drinkable quality will require additional filtration post-UV lamp and pitcher filtering.
Using the Recirculating Aquaculture System

The third method will require some additional steps, but is also a great way to purify water. Purchase the Recirculating Aquaculture System and the necessary parts to make it run, then place a few Gutter Tilapia into it. This won’t instantly purify any water in the tank, but it will clear up over time.
Using the Old Hydroponic System
You could also use the Old Hydroponic System and place a few Hydroreed Seeds and some filters into the device along with a jug of water. By placing a seed into the Seed Input slot, it will take up a little water and also purify the jug of water at the same time. The more seeds you place, the faster the water gets purified.
Both the Recirculating Aquaculture System and the Old Hydroponic System are very slow methods to purify water, so I won’t usually recommend them, especially if you are running low on water supply to sell.
Using the AquaScan

I suggest purchasing an AquaScan from any of the vendors who will occasionally drop by and use it to check the quality of water post-filtration. That way, you can check the microbe, heavy metal, organic waste, and other contamination levels to know whether your water requires additional filtration. Keep checking all your filtered water from time to time using this device to check the water quality.
How to Get Pure Water
The highest water quality tier is Pure Water, and there are two ways to get it. The water purifier comes in clutch here again, but you need to use refinement modules to increase the quality of the machine to further filter out and process the water into Pure Water. If you hover your cursor over the water purifier machine, you can check the Max Purity level. If this level is at 99%+, then you are sure to get Pure Water.
The second method to get Pure Water is by using the Moisture Farm. Similar to the water purifier, you need to place refinement modules to increase the water quality output. I would suggest purchasing Module Bay Expansion Kits and placing them on the above two machines to increase the module slots. This will allow you to place more refinement modules and, in turn, increase purity.
Selling Water
Water is always in high demand, especially during station events like the Water Supply Crisis. You should always keep a stock of several bottles of high-quality or pure water and bank on them during times of crisis. If you wish to attract the Water Stockpiler, a hack that I liked to use is to get any jug filled with base water and put the pure water label on it.
As long as you don’t sell this water and keep it on the display rack, you are sure to attract the Water Stockpiler. Customers will always pay a hefty amount for water, and you could also use the vending machine to sell water throughout the night in Probably Stolen.
