With the PS5 Slim going on sale, all eyes are set on Sony’s next generation of video game consoles — the PS6. While it still may be years away, it’s never a dull moment talking about what’s coming next.
Sony has released PlayStations every few years. PS3 debuted in 2006, six years after PS2’s launch in 2000; both PS4 and PS5 launched exactly seven years after their previous-gen counterparts (2013 and 2020 respectively). Judging by Sony’s launch patterns, it’s already not too hard to predict the PS6 release date — somewhere around 2027 seems like a reasonable bet. A legal document discussed later in this article gives us a more accurate launch window.
With the release being so far away, there are only morsels of information about Sony’s future generation of gaming consoles. Here’s everything we know about the PlayStation 6 so far.

When Will The PS6 Launch?
There is a very important piece of paperwork that sheds some light on the PS6’s possible launch date. It is the court document from the now-settled legal trial between the FTC and Microsoft over the latter’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Without going into all the legal jargon and redacted information, the crucial bit of information comes from Microsoft’s discussion of the future of Call of Duty titles. Microsoft stated the 10-year duration of its commitment to Sony to launch Call of Duty games on PlayStation platforms.
“This term would in any case go beyond the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles (in 2028),” Microsoft said. “Thus, Call of Duty will be published on successor PlayStation consoles should one be released during the term of the agreement. The agreement also would ensure that Call of Duty console games are offered on PlayStation at parity with Xbox.”
This makes it sufficiently clear that the PS6 is headed for launch in 2028.
PS6 Potential Features
Since we are several years off the launch, we can only speculate about features that will be present in Sony’s next iteration of game consoles. Here is a wishlist of features we would like to see in the PS6:
More Accessible Storage Modification
With the PS5, swapping out the internal SSD is possible, but the process isn’t exactly easy for the average end user. File sizes for games have skyrocketed in recent years. So, it would help gamers immensely if they could swap in bigger capacity SSDs more conveniently with the PS6.
Wireless Charging For Controllers & Headsets
This will be a huge quality-of-life improvement if the PS6 comes with a wireless charging dock for its controllers and headsets. This would mean fewer cables to manage and no more DualSense charging stations and wireless USB dongles.
VR Integration
This totally depends on how Virtual Reality stands on its own prior to the PS6 release date. If it continues to grow with more and more games geared for VR, Sony can potentially opt for a PS6 VR bundle with motion controllers and VR headset ready to plug and play.
PS6 Price Prediction
The last few consoles from Sony and Microsoft saw launches in the $400-$500 range. All things considered, we believe the PS6’s price to be in the same ballpark as well.
We’ll surely know about the PS6’s hardware specs, features, prices, variants (if any), and other details as we get closer to launch. Meanwhile, take a look at the best games on PS5.
