After a long time, it seems that Telltale is finally giving us a new series. Many of us have been waiting for their next narrative riddled with tough choices and engaging storytelling. Their next game, The Expanse: A Telltale Series, is based on the popular show The Expanse.
If you haven’t heard of it before, the source material is a science fiction television program that only recently came to an end in 2022 and is set in a near-future solar system colony. The fact that this is a relatively unexplored area and scenario for Telltale adventures further heightens the anticipation for the game.
The Expanse: A Telltale Series release date, platforms and price
The game’s official release date has been set for July 27, 2023. Being released in an episodic format, the first chapter will be available to play on July 27, with later chapters releasing periodically after that. Given that Telltale games typically have an episode gap of two to three months, you shouldn’t have to wait too long for all installments to be published.
It will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (via Epic Games Store). The Standard version will be available for $39.99 and Deluxe version for $44.99.
The Expanse: A Telltale Series story, characters and gameplay
Based on the trailer and recent gameplay footage, The Expanse: A Telltale Series will have a gameplay style that is similar to other Telltale games, with a strong emphasis on moral dilemmas and a developing story.
In our experience, this Telltale formula adds new layers to every series it touches. The idea of taking it to space this time will be especially appealing because of the increased risks and difficulties, which come with the harsh isolation. In addition to dealing with zero gravity as an additional challenge, it appears that you will be able to explore the dark and deadly spacecraft and stations that frequently populate the solar system.
Throughout the gameplay video, you can see a few new variations of the traditionally challenging Telltale dialogue options, along with a preview of the uncomfortable conversations you’ll be having.
With Cara Gee repeating her role as Camina Drummer in the game, it is evident that it is based on the TV programme of the same name. The Belt and all of its dangers will be explored while you remain on board the Artemis.
