Mortal Shell 2 has tough encounters with rough bosses that will love nothing more than making you face the game over screen again and again. While you have your trusty side arm by your side to take care of enemies at range, for close combat encounters, the game features 8 different melee weapons.
All the weapons will drastically change the pace of the game; the moveset for each weapon differs from the others. After you select the proper Tarstone and Seal, you can decide on the weapon that can help you achieve the goal of your build, either fast and furious or slow and heavy.
Most of the Melee Weapons found in Mortal Shell are tied to bosses and dungeons. Either you get these weapons as a boss drop, or you will find them in the area that you can grab after defeating the boss. One thing to note: you don’t get any general attack stats on the weapons; they are more akin to how weapons act in Devil May Cry games, where it’s the moves rather than any numbers.
There is a trophy for most of the weapon unlocks, and one on unlocking all 8.
The Iconoclast | One-Handed Sword

It’s the very first weapon you will get in the game, during the prologue. It’s the first basic weapon you unlock in the game; can’t be missed.
Axe & Dagger| Combination of Dagger and Axe

Get the Chapel Key found near the plateau of the Mushroom Village Beacon. The plateau only appears after looking through the cleansing or illusory gate near the spot. Now take the key to open the Shrine of Trials dungeon located northwest of Mushroom Village to find this weapon.
This weapon works best with the Tiel Shell, leaning into the Elden Ring dual swords kind of fast moveset, ideal for inflicting status effects on enemies.
Veteran’s Battleaxe | Battleaxe

Head to Blackridge Pass Beacon, now move north of the beacon to get to King’s Crypt dungeon. Make it all the way to the end of the dungeon, and you will find the Battleaxe held in the hands of a man with a decapitated head, near the sarcophagus. Defeating the boss and obtaining the weapon will unlock the Cut You Down to Size Trophy.
Great Martyr’s Blade| Great Sword

Make your way to Gloomshade Grove Beacon, and then head northwest to find Martyr’s Prison Dungeon. Complete the dungeon, and after defeating the enemy at the end, you will find the blade on an altar. Getting the weapon also unlocks the Big Boi Trophy.
This heavy, slow-moving but hard-hitting weapon works best with the Eredrim Shell.
Obsidian Hammer | Heavy Hammer

This one will take us to the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon once you have reached the spot. Then you need to make your way southwest from the beacon to get to Obsidianite Mines Dungeon.
Unlike the last couple of dungeons where we had to loot the weapon, the Obsidian Hammer is a drop after killing the final boss, Prophet of Profane Infinites, in the dungeon. Obtaining the hammer unlocks the Stop – Hammer Time Trophy.
Black Needle | Spear

Make your way to Sester’s Gate Beacon and defeat the Twin Sesters boss to get the weapon.
It’s a two-phase boss fight; in the first phase, you will face Twin Sester, one holding Rapier another with a bow. After defeating both, you will trigger the second and final phase, where you will face the Stray Sester boss. Defeat the boss to get the Black Needle weapon drop. Get the weapon, and you will also unlock the Just the Tip Trophy.
Axatana | Axe and Katana

Travel to the south of Sester’s Gate Beacon and get inside the Forgotten Tower. Once in the tower, you will find a steel gate with a button on its left.
Press the button to lift the steel gate, defeat the Dagger Sester enemy, and then grab the weapon lying in the alcove. Getting the weapon unlocks the Dual Wielding Trophy in Mortal Shell 2.
Clockwork Scythe

Head to Silent Steps Beacon, move southeast from the beacon to start the boss encounter against Sariel. It’s a long fight; defeat the boss to get the weapon. Obtaining the weapon also pops the Like Clockwork Trophy.
Sariel boss fight can get annoying with the boss’s resurrection mechanic, as the boss will resurrect multiple times after being defeated. To stop the resurrection effect, you must break all the stone tablets in the battle arena; only then will you finally put the boss to rest and grab the weapon. After you obtain all 8/8 Melee weapons in the game, you will be awarded the Lord of War Trophy.
