Playground Games finally gave us a reveal teaser for the reboot of its popular title, Fable. The developer is yet to state an official release date for the game, however, they announced that Fable will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
The Fable teaser trailer takes a funny turn, taking a cynical and satirical look at the so-called heroism trope. We see Dave, a self-proclaimed vegetable enthusiast, sneer at the so-called heroes, making fun of the very descriptive qualities the common folk admire in these self-serving vigilantes. Dave proceeds to mock them, including their tell-tale physical attributes, comically oversized weapons, their zest for mocking the laws of society, and thinking that whatever they do is charming, claiming that the age of heroes is over.
The new Fable trailer takes a funny perspective on the common hero tropes
All the while through Dave’s not-so-impressed recanting of these heroes, we see a female champion, battling some impressive beasts and throwing around, chickens, literally. There’s a sense of progress and the civilization has turned wheels, moving away from the medieval eras to the age of innovation, discovery, and scientific progress.
Just as Dave is about to make a decisive remark, we see the previously seen hero shrunken down, with Dave looking like a giant. Dave proceeds to look for household objects to get rid of this tiny phenomenon, and we see, in what looks a lot like gameplay footage, the female hero trying to run away from his attacks, hilariously trying to hurt him using mousetraps and tiny sharp objects.
From the trailer, it looks like the Playground Games is taking its most celebrated series, Fable, in a brand-new direction, heavily inspired by Jack and the Giant Bean Stalk. In one scene, we even see the hero gazing at what can only be described as a giant beanstalk shooting up from the ground! We’re curious to see what this means for the gameplay.
We see the hero using magic to straighten up some bandits and traditional sword fighting sequences. There seems to be a general wariness from the public about this hero, and we wonder if the rebooted game will feature the Fable from the perspective of the common people who are left to pick up the pieces of their lives after the so-called heroes are done saving it.
