Confirming various leaks that surfaced in the last couple of months, Genshin Impact developer miHoYo has revealed the first look teaser video for this year’s new region in the game – Fontaine.
The sandbox action RPG gets one new region every year, with the last one, Sumeru, released in August 2022. While the developer is yet to announce an official release date for Fontaine, it is confirmed that the new region will be accessible to players this year. Players are excited to explore the new region, rumored to be filled with lakes and rivers, hoping to catch a glimpse at the massive underwater world of Teyvat, which is inaccessible at the moment.

The teaser video shows a beautifully rendered clear underwater view with colorful fishes swimming about, and it ends with a short view of the game’s protagonist swimming to the surface. This is certainly an exciting revelation, as underwater diving was not allowed in Genshin Impact in any other region.
Genshin Impact players are wondering if diving underwater will come in the form of an ability, so they can go back and revisit some of their underwater previous points of interest. If players can start exploring the watery underworlds of Teyvat, that could mean a significant expansion of the title’s gameplay experience.
Currently, players can access four major regions in the game, with developers dedicated to introducing new regions and expanding the world of Teyvat. These regions offer players unique experiences by introducing new environmental elements, different gameplay mechanics, and loads of additional characters to interact, embody, and go on countless quests with.
A recent leak of the Genshin Impact 4.0 banner has also revealed the inclusion of two playable characters, Lynette and Lyney. Players are excited to explore this submerged domain, presumed to be the house of the God of Justice.
