Surprisingly, PlayStation has offered automatic refunds to select players who pre-ordered The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on the PlayStation Store. This decision specifically impacts users who already own the PS4 digital version of the game and were initially charged the full $50 remastered price.
Naughty Dog tweeted that refunds are due to the availability of a discounted $10 upgrade path for existing PS4 owners on launch day. PlayStation wants to ensure these players don’t miss out on the cheaper option and inadvertently pay twice for the same content.
In a message sent to affected users, PlayStation states that their pre-order for the remastered version has been refunded, allowing them to purchase the discounted upgrade instead. This upgrade will include all pre-order bonuses originally associated with the remastered purchase. So it is as if the company reversed your pre-order and corrected your charge.
The refund process is automatic and will be issued back to the original payment method used for the pre-order. Playstation notes that processing may take up to 60 days to reflect on user statements. In the event the refund can’t be automatically applied, the funds will be credited to the user’s Playstation Network wallet.
It’s a really kind thing for Sony to do and is undoubtedly appreciated by their players. While some users may have already pre-ordered the $50 remastered version, the automatic refund ensures they can opt for the cheaper upgrade instead.
Again, this is automatic and doesn’t need anyone to submit applications. This refund offer only applies to PS4 owners who specifically pre-ordered the remastered version of the game. Those who haven’t pre-ordered yet can still choose between the $50 remastered purchase or the $10 upgrade path on launch day, depending on their preference.
