Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was a highly anticipated remake from Ubisoft, since it goes back into their library at a time when they were dishing out big hits – this franchise, along with the Prince of Persia Sands of Time. The original Black Flag released back in 2013, with the launch of the PS4, which amazed many players for being different from a traditional Assassin’s Creed experience. Suffice to say, the opportunity to live the pirate life in Black Flag won over old and new fans who had stayed away from the franchise before this game. Now Ubisoft has brought the same pirate magic back with modern gameplay mechanics to the new generation in 2026.
What is Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced?

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a full-blown remake from the ground up of the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. Ubisoft used the same Anvil Engine to remake the new Black Flag; the same engine was part of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, launched last year in 2025. Besides visual fidelity, the game received a fair share of changes to make the old content fresh and new. Now we have a new character storyline, fleshed-out parkour, friendlier modern UI for combat and exploration, a fresh set of collectibles, and more.
The new Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced cut the multiplayer portion of the original, and the remake doesn’t come with Freedom Cry DLC. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is solely focused on bringing Edward Kenway’s storyline to the new generation. Among the features that captivated the player base, parkour, naval combat, and lastly, graphics seem to be the main attraction. Social media is flooded with footage of flashier parkour moves and destructive naval combat.
Should you go back and play the original?

I would say yes; taking a journey in the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag will act as an adventure to a bygone era. Completing the original will give you an idea of the advancement of technology behind every little game mechanic in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The original still holds up, since it was a product made for PlayStation 4; when it comes to comparison, the differences are noticeable but not groundbreaking, such as the original Resident Evil 2 to the Resident Evil 2 remake variant.
However, it is not a requirement at all, nor are any of the other games in the franchise – knowing Kenway’s place in the Assassin’s Creed lore does make the adventure more involved, but I suspect that the whole adventure on it’s own will be more than enough to have a good time playing Black Flag Resynced.
